This was a last-minute booking after our original accommodation was canceled 24 hours before arrival. We swiftly received a private message asking us to contact them over WhatsApp to officially confirm our booking which was bizarre. Then we were asked to pay an extra £200 as a damage deposit. We swiftly contacted booking.com as this was not mentioned in the booking information and asking for cash deposits outside the platform is a big red flag. Customer service talked to the host and confirmed we do not have to pay this as it was not part of the original agreement. The next morning we messaged the host and they again said we must pay the deposit. At this point, we asked booking.com to help us get a refund and book another accommodation. They said they would help us with both. 2 hours before our arrival we called them again and this time we were told they could only cancel without a refund as the host is willing to have us without the payment of the deposit. We decided to stick with the booking but the problems did not end there. Do not believe the Free Parking advertisement. It is only free parking if the host remembers to leave the parking fob and permit at the apartment. Otherwise, you are told to just find parking for yourself elsewhere. They also take their time when answering messages and calls. Would not recommend it.
