"Dirty moldy sheets, inconsistent electricity situation."

1.0

I liked the location of the property and then it seemed like a unique stay. The pictures seem to show off a clean home with a good view of the sunset. The pictures are not as the actual unit.

The host John is a PDF of instructions on how to get onto the property. We went through a couple of decades and then a team to get onto the property on a dirt road. Upon arriving you park on a gravel driveway and then have to walk probably about 200 feet on a dirt path that was not maintained, so the grass was overgrown when you’re walking up to the unit. The unit itself on the outside was as shown in the picture. The unit inside was humid so we turned on the generator as instructed, waited for the unit to cool a bit and then the A/C turned off after about half an hour or so. Since it had been raining in the area and there was not much sunlight in the generator was solar powered the generator was not charged adequately as per John. We turned the generator off and let it charge up a little bit and then try turning it back on, but the AC never turned back on. There were no other options. He called cause to keep the doors open. Meant that a bunch of mosquitoes would get inside the unit, and there was a fan that was underneath the sink. It was extremely dusty and dirty. John offered to refund us $50 for the night for the inconvenience and we ended up going to bed for the night. When we woke up we noticed that the fridge had never actually turned on because there was not enough power going to the fridge. The bathroom also had hair that was never cleaned out of the drain. There was also mold on the sheets that we hadn’t noticed before we had gone to bed. We decided then to check out early. John had refunded us the nights we didn’t stay but he didn’t honor the $50 refund for the first night and didn’t offer to comp us for the $150 cleaning fee. When I discussed this with booking.com John said he would only refund the $50 if I didn’t post a review. I rely very heavily on other people’s reviews on properties like this so in good faith I wasn’t able to not post a review of this stay for the $50 refund.

"Refund never issued. Beautiful views and property, off-grid glamping pod"

4.0

Beautiful property and location. The pod concept is modern and wonderful with a host who is extremely communicative and prepared the pod for our arrival.

We came in with the understanding that the pod was off grid. However, the pod is essentially a glass terrarium which can get hot and stuffy during the day. The doors do open up to allow the unit to be open to the outdoors. The unit is run completely off solar and batteries. With that in mind, there is an A/C unit as advertised in the listing but the solar battery system limits its use. This pod is still a young concept, I’m hopeful for its future. Refund is still pending. Refund never issued.

"For the adventurous types"

8.0

The nature and the view of the sunset are really beautiful.

The pod is very modern looking, however it is not so practical when it comes to organising ones stay. We guessed from the pictures that it has a kitchenette area so we brought some basic food to prepare and eat (like fruits to be cut, veggies and bread for sandwitches, canned soup and oats for porridge). There is a fridge, which helps, however as one is supposed to turn off the electricity during the day as you leave the pod, the fridge also stops working, so any perishables are in danger of spoiling. Also there are no dishes, like not even bowls and spoons to eat a yoghurt, nothing, just 2 cups for coffee. So this is not very practical as one would assume that in a secluded area that takes a bit of navigation to reach, one would need to have a bit better options to prepare some basic food. So the information given in advance - before booking would need to be more precise (like that there is no hot water in the pod, that there is practically almost no cooking facilities available) as that impacts ones decitsion to book or not. The nature is beautiful, the pod is super cool looking ... its just this info that would make things less stressful once at the location that was missing.

"A fun and relaxing glamping experience."

8.0

Really enjoyed the view and solitude of the location as well as living within the boundaries of solar power. It’s a quick ride to many restaurants and beaches.

I enjoyed being mindful of the amount of electricity and water I used, though others might find that too challenging.
