Kenwood Apartments, Downtown Hyde Park

This property is nice and unique. I like the easy self check in process. The building was very nice and well kept. The room was well decorated with a balcony. The setup and shared living space, kitchen, bathroom, washer, and dryer were well maintained. The policies and house procedures were posted at the door with free wifi. Safe and secure locks.I enjoyed my stay.

Upon arrival, I was shocked to find my assigned room open, with the bed undone and clearly used. The bathroom was in an appallingly dirty condition. I immediately contacted the owner, who acknowledged the mistake after 30 minutes and offered me an “upgrade” to the master bedroom. While this gesture was appreciated, the master bedroom itself was far from acceptable — the sheets were stained and had hairs on them, and the bathtub was filthy. I reached out to Booking.com for assistance, and unfortunately, the owner did not respond until the following day. To make matters worse, the door to the room couldn’t be locked, which left me feeling unsafe. As a result, I had no choice but to change accommodations after just one night. Location Warning: Although the property is near the University of Chicago, I later learned that students are strongly advised to avoid this area — something I unfortunately discovered only after arriving. That said, I personally didn’t encounter any immediate danger during my stay.

Room was spacious and well appointed, beds comfy. We enjoyed using the large kitchen & sitting area (so sunny and nice!) Perfect location to walk to our Univ. if Chicago destinations & to museum of Science & Industry. Great free street side parking!!

May want to bring a roll of TP! Plenty of paper towel in kitchen, but we didn’t have/couldn’t find TP.

The property was extremely dirty, and the location, although near the campus, felt very unsafe. The room was freezing, and despite repeatedly informing the owner, they refused to acknowledge that the air conditioner wasn’t working. This place is not comfortable for a proper stay, the overall cleanliness and maintenance are unacceptable.

Smooth Check in and Check Out, The host sent the check in Codes well in advance and was very helpful and guided the location very well. Although the Bathroom was outside the room, it was totally private for the room.

I really liked how close this accommodation is to the lakeside parks, and it was by far more affordable than a hotel. The key locks and everything worked great. Laundry facilities were a real bonus.

My duvet had no cover in it, only a top sheet, which I felt was a bit strange. There was also old food in the fridge and the kitchen equipment and cupboards felt a little but grubby and sparse. Also no handles on some of the kitchen drawers.
