Hostal Holbox - Hostel & Private Apartments

Perfect location - 5 mins from beach, 2 mins from centre. Stayed in a private room that was spacious, clean, shower was great, bed was big and comfortable, location is quiet (a lot of the old reviews are of the last location the hostel was in).

For this price point it’s difficult to point anything out if I’m honest.

This is the perfect base if you are here to explore Isla Holbox. Clean, simple, comfortable rooms, with (necessary) mosquito window covers. I stayed in a private room. The hostal has just relocated and when I stayed they were still adding finishing touches. It’s just a block away from the main shopping bar/area, yet far enough to be quiet at night, and just 5 mins walk from the beach, so for me a great location. The team are lovely and very welcoming, and so is el perro, Chico :) I had a wonderful couple of days and am already planning my return.

There is some building work happening across the road - this of course won’t be forever. It’s not really an issue (and it wasn’t for me) if you are heading to the beach or out to explore and just using the place as a base for your stay.

No AC , no towel provided, only 2 chargers plugg in the whole room, the bed are just in front each other ( no privacy)

Even though it is a big dorm it does not feel cramped. It is close to the square and the beach. The beds provide good privacy. The beds are good with a fan, outlets and a lamp

There is one smoking area, which is all the common areas = smoke everywhere, that goes through walls and floors to the beds, toilet and kitchen. The neighbour to the right is a restaurant with live music (first time I have heard Baby Shark on a trumpet). On the other side there is a night club/bar with a speaker they are very proud of. There is no place to hang your wet towels and swimwear other than on the railings inside. There is no social activities planned by the hostel. If you want to cook in the kitchen you have to do it before it gets dark, as there is only decorative lights. There is a limited amount of bowls and glasses.

I stayed in the apartments connected to the hostel. I had my own private room. It was very quiet and Linda was so kind. She welcomes every guests and is super responsive if you need anything!

The hostel kitchen could receive some love. There is limited wash cloths and drying cloths. Also it would be great if the hostel provided potable water in the huge jugs so that each guest doesn’t have to buy plastic. It is better for the environment !
