Flat 2 The Butlers Quarters

Quiet location up a private side road made it feel secure. Nicely presented accommodation.

It’s unusual to stay at an apartment B&b and not even get tea/coffee and a small amount of milk to get you through the first night. I arrived in too late to get anything from a shop and this meant no drink until I could walk into the town the next day. I was a bit peeved that I was expected to strip the bed after my stay (not putting it in washing machine). I’m not sure how much time that actually saves their cleaners, but I don’t want to be doing chores on my breaks away. Apartment was cold and there was no way to adjust heating. I ended up sitting in the bed to keep warm rather than the lounge. I’m sure it’s set at ‘optimal eco temp’ but I was freezing.

Lovely accommodation with lots of room. Clear directions on how to find Butlers Quarters. Pleasant outside sitting area.

No coffee provided. Bath towels rather small for adults.

What a gorgeous old building! Flat was compact and ‘as new’ but with period features and had everything you could possibly need and more. Beautiful, modern finish and comfortable furnishings. Ample space and everything easy to access and use. Lovely views of the garden and pretty planting from every window. Good designated parking space also. A very quiet, pretty residential area which was close enough to walk to a nearby park and town and an accessible drive to Wales where we were visiting the Eisteddfod. Owner communicated well as was available on phone when needed.

Completely out of your control but we were kept awake by the upstairs flat residents stomping around until late. Otherwise, there was nothing to dislike, it was lovely!!

The property was in a very convenient location, and was ideal for what we needed. Also, having lived in Oswestry at one stage, it was good to see Ardmillan House being used and renovated. It was convenient to have a parking space, and the facilities were generally good. The main bed was comfortable, and the shower was effective. The host was quick to respond to messages, and provided all necessary information before we arrived.

Although the kitchen contained a lot of fairly random/niche items, it didn’t have some basics like a teatowel, and the oven glove was so small and thin, it was useless. Although the bed itself was comfortable, and the duvet itself was fine, the duvet cover was well past its sell-by date, and was so bobbly it was scratchy and uncomfortable. In the bathroom, the toilet seat wasn’t properly fitted, and slid around rather alarmingly. Also, in the kitchen, although the fridge was empty, it hadn’t been cleaned very well, and the jars on the worktop contained coffee in a state which could only be described as desiccated! These oversights were disappointing in a flat which was otherwise very pleasant.

The location was good and the flat and its facilities were good.

The downfall was I had to ask for the heating to be put on after a cold nights first stay. Someone came and the heating was then fixed but the hot water never got to a decent temperature and I had to boil a kettle to have a shave in the mornings. I did message Carolyn about this problem but she seem to think I imagined it. It would have been better if someone had come to the flat ran the hot water taps and confirmed that they ran cold after 30 seconds.

Great place to stay, The building seeped in history.
