Happy Hammocks, Hiriketiya Beach - Sri Lanka

Happy Hammocks is one of those rare hostels that just gets it right. It’s cozy, social, and has a super chill vibe that makes it easy to meet people or just unwind. Unlike other hostels, they don’t nickel and dime you for every little thing. Az, the owner, is an awesome guy and he and the social hosts are eager to help the guests have a great time. The pool table, shared kitchen, and social events were also a great bonus.

- shower didn't work for two days in a row during the day. I had just come back from the beach and there was no water and staff weren't really helpful, kept asking me to wait but 30mins later it still wasn't on. I had to beg to let me use another shower which should have been offered to me in the first instance. The receptionist wasn't the most helpful, she kinda just smiled and said she'd be back.. - unhygienic at times, they have a dog which they let go anywhere. They constantly leave the room doors open which is weird to me. The dog came into my room twice?! It also lays on the couch where people sit in the common area - it's not a party hostel but music played until quite late - on maps it looks like it's next to the beach but it's about 10minutes away, which is fine but the hostel is up a hill and down a dark road, there's not much light on the walk back - dogs from next door can be quite scary when coming back in the dark, had one growl and jump up on me

Questo ostello offre molte attività ed è il posto giusto se avete voglia di socializzare. Offre una bella area comune e c’è sempre qualcuno con cui scambiare due chiacchiere. I dormitori e i bagni sono abbastanza puliti e la spiaggia dista 10 minuti a piedi.

Great social side

Very squeaky beds. There was a hole in the roof and this led to rat poo entering top bunk. They did deal with this swiftly and gave me money back for the nights when effected
