"A comfortable, well appointed country cottage in a tranquil barn conversion setting"

8.0

A very comfortable and well appointed stone cottage in a barn conversion holiday complex, set in tranquil surroundings by a stream. Kitchen facilities were very good, although we did note the absence of a microwave. We imagined that the lack of kitchen bench space was the reason. We enjoyed the log fire during the evening.

We had a very pleasant stay but offer the following feedback for the awareness of future travellers. Two drawbacks that future guests need to be aware of. We acknowledge that the owners probably cannot do anything about these but those thinking of staying might appreciate the heads-up. 1) Internet access from the property is extremely poor, with an upload speed of less than 1MB per second. We gave up after the first evening as it was so slow and became very frustrating trying to do even basic tasks. While it's not an essential feature for a holiday, nowadays most people expect good internet access, and it can be important when you're trying to keep on top of email correspondence about future bookings etc. 2) The exposed beams in the bedrooms and bathroom were a hazard. To protect our heads we wrapped some bath towells around the beams. Even then, my husband, who is bald, banged his head a couple of times and grazed it. I appreciate that they're often a fact of life in the country and an attractive feature, but for travellers, they can be quite a hazard, and you end up stooping a lot of the time to avoid injury. A final observation which might have been a one-off. The shower was only luke-warm on our first day. We advised the owner and she said the hot water system may have tripped. The following days were fine, so this may have just been an unfortunate and unexpected event, but it would be good to ensure that hot water is actually available for guests' arrival.

Beautiful surroundings and cottage. Owners really friendly and helpful.

The weather, but that's not their fault obviously.

Very relaxing. Nice location. Beautiful cottage. Lovely meadow/gardens.

Private cottage garden with grass with enclosed gate would have been better for our nervous little dog but personal issue/opinion and does not distract from overall package.
