The Wasdale Head Inn & Apartments

This was a brilliant experience - a traditional inn which you can imagine hasn't changed much since the mid 1800s. We loved having a drink and swapping stories with fellow hikers in the pub, and had a great meal in the restaurant. The staff were all incredibly friendly and knowledgeable about walking and the local area. It was an ideal location for Scafell Pike - we started our walk directly from the inn and it was easy to find and park.

If you're looking for a luxury experience and are used to high end hotels, this likely won't be for you. Our accommodation was comfortable enough but more like a youth hostel. It met our needs for a one night stay but I wouldn't have wanted to stay for a week. I also wouldn't recommend the packed lunch as the bread was pretty stale.

Location was perfect for our activities. The apartment was fabulous! I'd forgotten body wash and thankfully they supplied some there. They had everything that we needed. The bed was also super comfy! Everything from the food at the restaurant/bar was beautiful and the atmosphere was great, to the little shop that also had everything you need. Would definitely visit again!

An annoying fly 😅

The location is perfect for Wasdale Head trails. The Inn has camping as well as hotel rooms. Plenty of hikers food options and they even offer a packed lunch which is handy. I had a single room, it was clean and a bit dated, little things like the window not staying up are par for the course in a well used walkers Inn. Nice touch of tray to put muddy boots on. Also residents bar and sitting room so you can get away from the day walkers if you want to. Staff are great, helpful and friendly.

Amazing location. Really friendly. Fabulous breakfast and dog friendly.

Price is high at £172 a night but just about worth it for the location and breakfast.
