The Polchar - Aviemore

Lovely, very comfortable house in a fantastic location. The bedrooms are all beautifully decorated, and the ensuite showers are wonderful. Extensive outdoor space.

The WiFi service is patchy. We booked a space at the nearby Workspace Highland for an important work call. The kitchen has an electric Aga, which takes some getting used to.

We all loved our stay at The Polchar. We are an extended family of 9 people and found the property comfortable with plenty of space for everyone. The bedrooms are well proportioned and are nicely furnished in keeping with this older character filled property. Plenty of hot water and lovely toiletries in the en-suite bathrooms too. The kitchen has everything you need for cooking a proper meal and is very well equipped. Although the house is in a quiet secluded location, it is less than a 5 minute drive off the main road and only a little further into Aviemore with all the facilities on offer there. The garden is amazing, really large with different sections for exploring with some amazing plants, ponds and trees. The hot tub was also well used, a really nice addition to the facilities. Special mention to our host Marco who responded quickly and was very helpful.

The WiFi is a bit intermittent but we were informed about this beforehand so not an issue and very understandable in the location. Sad we didn't stay longer.

- Communication with hosts was brilliant and they helped to resolve any of our minor niggles quickly. - Location. No traffic whatsoever, so nice and quiet. - Communal spaces for dining, playing games. - Immediately local access to walks and bike rides. - Hot tub! - Large beds. - Steam shower.

- A welcome guidebook would be useful for local walks and activities or troubleshooting minor issues like WiFi or the hottub going cold. - The Internet only works for one or two devices at a time. They're on a satellite link which wont be perfect but I think the issue we had was more with the router limiting connections. Upstairs I could get a perfectly fine Internet signal through my mobile network, but no reception downstairs. Made it frustrating for planning each day's activities. - Smoke alarm is VERY sensitive. But I guess this also a good thing! - The hot tub got cold on two occasions during the week and it wasn't clear how to remedy the issue.

Beautifully appointed luxurious accommodation

Bathroom had no working light.

Location, structure, garden and property size. Also good space to park your car.

Boiler is not capable to provide hot water to all showers. To have cold showers in december is wild.

The most incredible house. From the AGA, the house, the outside facilities, the location, and the gardens. The bedrooms felt like 5 star hotel rooms. The family rooms were homely. The gardens were endless. The hottub was the perfect way to end a day exploring the surrounding mountains and lochs. The kitchen had everything needed for family meals. The formal dining room was perfect for a game of cluedo. The fireplaces were all ready for us to light when we arrived. It was the most fabulous family holiday.

A manual with instructions on how to use the AGA, kitchen appliances, outside lights, and TV would be handy. There was a large house on the grounds next door. We weren't affected by it as it was empty the whole time we stayed.

We loved the house itself, which is beautifully decorated, spacious, convenient in every single way. It has a beautiful surrounding garden with a hot tub. It has a wonderful location - 20 minutes drive to the Cairngorm skiing station, 18 min drive to Loch Morlich, 10 min drive to the Loch an Eilein, 7 min drive to the local stores. We had simply great time there and our children loved it! We will definitely come back!

The only issue was the Internet connection, which was, unfortunately, quite poor.

Good location, quiet surroundings. Very homely, clean and had all you could ask for.

Needs more outside lighting especially around the drive, front snd hot tub areas. The hot tub wasn’t in the best location.

Wonderful setting and gardens. Short cycle or drive to loch side and amenities. Cottage cosy, great beds and all well maintained. Lots of equipment for cooking indoors and out. Hot tub was great. Host Marco very responsive and helpful.

Large modern barn house also in the grounds very close to the cottage. Does not impact beauty of gardens but overlooks/shares hot tub area. Owners away so did not affect our stay thankfully. Just not clear from the pictures when booking.
