"Fawlty Towers at Savoy Prices"

1.0

The towels

Oh dear where to start. I honestly thought they were filming the next series of Fawlty Towers and unbeknownst to me I was an extra. Guests are treated as an inconvenience rather than a paying customer. I arrived and was left hanging around the bar while they tried to find the key and once they had the key decided to have an impromptu meeting with the manager while I stood waiting. The deluxe king looks great in the photos but don't be deceived. Damp patches on the walls, lights that don't work, toilet seat rotten, toilet waste pipe leaking sewage onto the floor and a bathroom window that doesn't close. The room faces right on to the main road and so is really noisy and you can hear the room above as well. Dinner took forever to come out to the point where they provided a complimentary drink. The place busy for a Monday evening and other tables were complaining. On a large table one person got their meal after everyone else had finished. I asked about breakfast and was told they don’t start until 9:30am because the staff like a lie in! Doesn’t matter what plans the guests have like maybe getting to a 9am meeting. I asked if they could do earlier and we agreed 8am. Obviously the staff had the hump at having to start early and were miserable to the point of being downright rude. Breakfast service was glacial. It turns out that the order hadn’t been passed to the kitchen, so I ended up with a takeaway sandwich. Then to top it all the manager literally hoovered round our feet while waiting for our delayed breakfast. I had to point out how rude and inconsiderate this was and ask her to stop. This place is way over priced. Even at half the price it would be expensive. Avoid at all costs.

"Breakfast and manager’s attitude let the place down"

6.0

Good position Lovely room comfortable bed

Dinner in the evening was good . We had to wait for an hour for breakfast The manager not friendly and we felt we were in the way. The cleaner hoovered around us while we waited for breakfast We had 1 cup of coffee and when my husband asked for a cup of tea he was told he had to pay extra

"Delightful stopover, would have liked more than one night stay"

10.0

Staff were so friendly and welcoming which is always a good start and our dog was made very welcome too. Cherie (or Sherry, not sure) greeted us with a smile and throughout our stay made sure we had everything we needed. Our room was up some stone steps from the courtyard and was facing the road. Good secondary double glazing meant it was quiet even though facing the through traffic. Large bed 6ft+ wide (nb bed base was low to the ground so might not suit everyone but if you can manage stone steps then it probably won't be a problem) and delight of delights, it had the most lovely comfortable, high quality, 100% cotton bed linen which is always a good sign that they have thought of guest comfort. Good shower over a bath tub (made use of the bath too and hot water was plentiful). We were there in glorious weather so made use of the pretty courtyard for pre-dinner drinks and also the following morning to relax before setting off. Our dinner in the pub was really lovely. They serve 'Original Maids of Honour' pies (look them up, they are in Kew) but the night we were there they only had the beef pie, no chicken pie. Didn't matter as I chose the salmon cooked with sumac and (very buttery) new potatoes while my husband had the beef pie. Its served as a slice from a large pie and is stuffed full of delicious beef. We were pretty full after that so only had one dessert and Billy, who had been due to go home as they kitchen had closed, stayed on a bit longer to prepare the dessert which he presented beautifully. We made sure to tell Sophie the manager how good we found everything and its clear they are working hard to please their customers and have plans to refurbish and open up another room or two. We had managed to park for free in the Church car park (they have an arrangement I think) but if that is full then parking is available for a fee at the nearby Lanes Hotel. The village itself is very pretty with a couple of walks and a pretty Church yard.

Can't think of anything

"Ho soggiornato una notte presso questa struttura, stanza molto bella e spaziosa e buon cibo al pub sottostante"

9.0

La stanza era molto bella con il letto ampio e tanto spazio, il cibo del pub sia cena che colazione molto buono

Unica pecca della stanza era la luce verde posizionata proprio sopra al letto
