Malia Bay Beach Hotel & Bungalows

The hotel is nice and clean, rooms are pretty spacious and nice. Staff is overall very friendly and helpful

The food quality and variety were quite disappointing. While breakfast was acceptable, lunches and dinners lacked options—especially if you’re not interested in fried food. Finding something suitable for kids was extremely difficult, and I definitely wouldn’t recommend this place for families. We stayed for four days, and by the third day, we chose to eat at local tavernas because there was simply nothing decent available on-site. On top of that, there was no proper drink service—only self-serve post-mix drinks that tasted chemical and unpleasant. Finding a place to sit in the restaurant was another challenge. Unless you want to sit outside in the blazing sun, your choices are limited to a poorly ventilated and uncomfortably hot indoor area. To be fair, the staff were amazing—helpful and kind—but there’s only so much they can do given the limited resources. The property itself is fairly nice, but overall, the poor food really ruined the entire experience. I wouldn’t return.

Zelo prijazno osebje. Celoten resort je lep in urejen. Sobe so dovolj prostorne in udobne, klima deluje brezhibno. Lepa in funkcionalna kopalnica. Na voljo so 3 bazeni, od tega 1 otroški, kjer je nizka voda. Dobra in raznolika ponudba hrane in pijače.

Rjuhe med spanjem drsijo z vzmetnice, popravljati smo jih morali vsako jutro. Dodatno ležišče je bilo zelo trdo. Plaža oziroma dostop v morje - je precej skalnato, zato smo vedno hodili levo na sosedno plažo, kjer je bilo nekoliko boljše. Nesmiselno je zaračunavati ležalnike na taki plaži.

Check-in: We arrived a bit before the official time, left our bags at reception, and went to the pool bar. Within an hour, our room was ready, and to our pleasant surprise, we received an upgrade Rooms: During our stay, we changed rooms three times. Each was cute, cozy, and tastefully decorated. Our family loved the cactus artwork! Without minor maintenance issues, every room would have been perfectly comfortable Food: The restaurant chefs are true professionals. The food was delicious with lots of variety. The pool bar offered lunch snacks too - more limited but tasty. The cocktail list at the pool and lounge bars has about 10–12 local-alcohol options. For an extra charge, you can get premium cocktails or imported spirits Property: The grounds are not large, but there’s enough space for everyone. We always found free tables in the restaurant and sunbeds by the pool Beach: Sunbeds on the beach are not free. Visiting in May, it wasn’t an issue: there were enough poolside spots, and we were fine walking 20 meters to the sea and back. I can't say how it is in high season with more guests. The sea entry is interesting, with large stone slabs that make it easier to walk in (bring water shoes). Past thigh depth, there’s soft sand. We saw plenty of pretty fish and little crabs, but no jellyfish or other dangerous creatures in May. Evenings were great for beach walks with easy access through neighboring hotel sections and the public beach Location: About a 20-minute walk to Malia center. But right opposite the hotel, there are two small shops with all the essentials. The Malia Palace archaeological site is within walking distance if you enjoy ruins and history. Across the street is a tour agency where you can book excursions around the island in many languages Staff: The staff really care. You can see how hard they work, like busy bees, to keep guests comfortable and happy. Their effort truly made our stay better!💖

The rooms had minor maintenance issues (a leaking air conditioner, a broken toilet flush) that caused us to move several times. However, each time the staff offered us an upgrade to a higher room category, which was a very nice gesture and made up for the inconvenience. In our first room, there was no shower door in the bathroom. This really surprised us because water ended up everywhere in the bathroom after showering. We felt uncomfortable and asked at reception about putting the door back. The response was that the door was removed for “safety reasons,” which seemed strange to us. During our stay there was a sandstorm one day. While the hotel grounds were cleaned very quickly, the pool took much longer to be cleared. We waited a whole day for it to be cleaned, but the man in charge kept getting distracted and leaving the task. Unfortunately, the sea was rough that day too, so we missed out on swimming altogether. The beach would really benefit from a wooden walkway. Walking over the hot sand burned our feet even in flip-flops, and it’s almost impossible for older guests or people with limited mobility to reach the water comfortably. A simple walkway would greatly improve the experience. The beach shower and wooden platform are old and really need replacement. These are small issues that can easily be fixed if the hotel management wants to—and if they did, guests would have almost nothing left to complain about apart from the paid sunbeds on the beach😉

Very big rooms, nice view, sea beach in a few min and also have 4 or 5 pools. Tasty food.

The shower was broken in the room. The first night we needed to go to another room to take a shower. The next day it wasn't fixed so we asked to transfer to another room. Towels are always in the laundry and they do not have new ones. So every day I needed to catch the cleaning lady to ask for them.

Everything .. great staff, amazing place, pools, beach, good food … entertainment provided as well! All great. I just loved it! Thanks so much 🥰
