"Great location but TERRIBLY thin walls"

4.0

GOOD - Great location! Right in front of the port where we took speedboat to Haiphong (port for Cat Ba tours are at another area, 15 minutes away) - Clean room and spacious BAD - TERRIBLY thin walls. We were at room 911, bay view room, but could hear the dishes and utensils all the way from the restaurant at 11th floor. Other things we could hear through thin walls include: toilet flushing from room above us, people's conversations from the opposite room(!!!) - Wifi did not work. Many guests I saw were all at the lobby either complaining about how it didn't work, or just did their web surfing in the lobby. The wifi only worked in our room when we stood in front of the door.

"will choose a different hotel next time."

6.0

Rooms are big and view is pretty good but, bathrooms are very old and all furniture and equipment need refurbishing even at the restaurant. In general is not a bad hotel but, is more expensive than the majority around and not worth the extra cash.

"Do not stay here"

2.0

- The hotel is infested with ants - The breakfast is worst. The staff actually stole our toasts to give to room service orders even when we asked them what they were doing. Coffee and tea is undrinkable - Staff does not speak english - Wifi, when it works, is fast. However, you need to log in 50 times a day because it logs out all the time

"Exceptional"

10.0

Fabulous views from our front room. Great bed, big bathroom. Huge set of steps up to reception a problem for some. Apart from very helpful young gentleman on reception, staff had no interest. We were told a typical shoulder season attitude. Reception and corridors barely lit, but good breakfast.

"Good Standard Hotel close to wharf"

8.0

The room was a good size, clean and comfortable. The hotel is conveniently located opposite the wharf where the ferry departs from every day.

"it is ok for the island and one of the best there"

6.0

The hotel, staff and breakfast are ok. It is okay if you stay some nights there. The hotel is opposite of the pier.

"Nice roof, the rest needs updating."

6.0

Hotel is very conveniently located. The rooftop patio / bar / pool is fabulous. A great view of the harbor. The wifi in the hotel is awful. It appears that one room on the floor has the wifi router for the floor. If the occupant of that room leaves, the power goes off and the wifi is no longer available for the floor. I couldn't confirm this was the actual scenario, but I stayed in 2 different rooms, and 1 had a wifi router while the other did not. The main hotel wifi was spotty too, but the lobby seemed to always work. The restaurant food was unacceptably low quality, but this is true generally on Cat Ba. There were more bugs than expected. The night security guard likes to sleep on the couch.

"One of the best hotels we had in Asia!"

10.0

We really enjoyed our stay at Sea Pearl. Cat Ba is a great island, so glad we made the effort to get there. Sea Pearl is in a perfect location in the center and just opposite the pier. We booked a room with a sea view, the room we were initially given did not have a sea view, just a view of the building next door but we sorted this quickly with reception and were given a lovely room with a beautiful view. Really comfortable stay and great rooftop bar with gorgeous view. Shallow pool but still nice to cool off and have a cocktail. Only downfall were staff didn't have a huge knowledge of tours, just directed us to the tour operator. We skipped the one they mentioned because they didn't seem to advertise what we wanted at the time, but then ended up doing a rather dodgy 1/2 day tour of lan ha bay, still nice enough. We then wanted to do another tour of ha long bay but they all do la ha bay first so we would have had to repeat ourselves a bit. Anyway, if staff had of said that all day tours do la ha + halong and half day tours do la ha it would have given us a better idea and tour experience on the island.
