Chough Cottage

So relaxing and peaceful. Lots of space and really clean. Great location. Jacob was a lovely host It was perfect for my mums 70th birthday and for the children to run around and explore. Lots of games to play and a safe enclosed garden for the dogs

Beautiful surroundings, lovely big garden. Also great kitchen facilities for self-catering purposes and they even left a couple of cereals out which was appreciated.

Invasion of privacy: One morning (around 7:30am) one of the owners LET HERSELF INTO THE PROPERTY WHILST MY HUSBAND AND I WERE STILL IN BED!!! And started calling out 'hello! hello!' I was absolutely shocked. We had paid a lot of money to have private use of this property - completely inexcusable to let yourself into the property! Couldn't believe it and am still shocked that that happened. Not dog-friendly: They asked for no dogs upstairs but didn't provide a stairgate so we had to use the bins to barracade the stairs - impractical having to climb over these each morning! One afternoon we left the dog alone downstairs only for 2 hours (he had been fed, walked and had plenty of fresh drinking water). Received a text from the owners saying this was 'against their policy' and that they 'insisted we return immediately'. Nowhere did it state this before booking. Totally respect if this is the policy, but make it clear in your listing so people can decide beforehand if this is the right stay for them. We would have chosen to stay somewhere else that better catered our needs. Unsafe: A staircase leads from the garden up to the lounge - door is unlocked and didn't have a key. Owners unbothered when I raised it and said there 'should be a key around somewhere'. We already felt unsafe after the incident of the woman coming into the property! Location: Ok, but very remote. We felt so upset and uncomfortable by the events that had taken place that we actually chose to leave a day early. We just couldn't settle there and felt we were constantly being 'watched'. The owners live a stone's throw from the property - they could probably see in from their bedroom window, so be mindful of this if you're looking for a private stay because you won't be getting one. We are so upset as this was supposed to be a lovely trip for our 2nd wedding anniversary but we both just felt uncomfortable the whole time.

Not a lot, needs a cutlery drainer in the dishwasher. 😅

Spotlessly clean and well equipped. Hosts are really nice and helpful. Location is quiet and rural yet only a short drive to beaches and other attractions. Definitely dog friendly too. A real gem to return to.

Not booking a longer stay.

The cottage was very well equipped, we had everything we needed and situated in a beautiful location. A short drive to the Lizard! Jacob and his family were very welcoming. We definitely wanted to stay a little longer so would highly recommend staying here more than 2 nights!
