Sweet Meadow A delightful romantic thatched cottage by river Shannon on 4 acres is for peace party family or work from home

The Cottage is beautiful from the outside.

The smell of dampness in the cottage is overwhelming. The cottage is absolutely filthy inside and over run with insects. The electrical work in this cottage is not safe. We arrived on Friday afternoon.. our initial thoughts were it wasn't good but we said we'd try make the most of it and pretend we were camping. The house smelled terrible, but we understood it's an old cottage so we lit the fire and tried to air out the house a bit. We bought some candles to light in the living room and hoped they might work. One look in the bathroom made us realise that the smell was actually mould and that the problem was the house is just filthy. The main bedroom is actually disgusting, the ceiling is filthy and covered in years old cobwebs. The are extension leads everywhere with heaters and dehumidifiers plugged in. The bed and bed linen were filthy so we actually just lay on the bed Friday night. We had an early start to do the Carrick Camino Saturday morning so this wasn't ideal. I tried to brush my teeth Saturday morning but the water from the tap was the same colour as milk. We left the cottage Saturday morning at 6am and walked the 35km of the camino. We then decided to do the 3 hrs drive home instead of staying the 2nd night which speaks volumes. I can only attach 4 pics with this review and im not sure this shows how dirty this house is. It is so bad with mould and insect infestation that I honestly believe this house should not be allowed to be rented out. This is a shame as the cottage looks nice from the outside. To be clear we picked this property as we wanted to stay in an old rustic cottage as we have done numerous times before all over Ireland and the UK. We do not have unreasonable expectations and we would have been happy if at least a minimum standard had been met. Sweet Meadow falls very very short of the minimum standard and is the worst property i have ever stayed in. I texted the owner through booking.

It's a great place to get away from city life love the fire 🔥 it's not to far from the town very good place for for a group to stay

Prachtig leuk vrijstaand huisje. Groot genoeg voor ons gezin van 7. Je ziet dat het met liefde beheert wordt. Toen onze zoon een gat in zijn hoofd was gevallen hebben ze goed geholpen zorg te vinden en kreeg zelfs de volgende dag een lief berichtje hoe het ging.

A Perfect Rural Retreat – With EV Charging! We had a truly wonderful stay at Sweet Meadow cottage. From the moment we arrived, we were enchanted by the peaceful, rustic charm of the thatched roof, the cozy interiors, and the beautiful surroundings along the River Shannon. The cottage was spotless, well-equipped, and full of character exactly what we were hoping for in a countryside escape. One of the unexpected highlights was the kind permission from the owner to charge our electric vehicle using a granny charger. This made our stay so much more convenient and stress free, and we are genuinely grateful for their generosity and hospitality. The owner was incredibly welcoming and thoughtful throughout, ensuring we had everything we needed to feel at home. Their warmth really added to the whole experience. We would absolutely recommend this spot to anyone looking for a peaceful retreat with a touch of old world charm and modern day convenience. Thank you again for a memorable stay!

A delightful cottage, well hidden from road, nice spacious kitchen and front room, plenty of bedrooms to choose from we liked the upper mezzanine, lots of garden space and it will be even nicer when all the sheds at rear are converted, really peaceful place, about 2km from the town, shower and bathroom were great, enjoyed our stay!!

Kitchen light too low as I kept banging my head off it!!
