Sweet Meadow A delightful romantic thatched cottage by river Shannon on 4 acres is for peace party family or work from home

Very Authentic, clean and cosy. Plenty of room when 6 of us stayed. We would love to come back again. Close enough to visit all surrounding towns. Thanks for an awesome place

Location. Cosyness. Beds . Fire . Back in time

Could do with a freezer . Water pressure was a bit of a pain but manageable

Absolutely nothing. There is nothing to like about this place. We were booked in for 3 nights and left on the first morning it was that bad. We would have left without staying at all, only it was late when we arrived the previous evening.

Where do I start? The house was absolutely filthy, there was months old cobwebs everywhere, dead maggot shells on the furniture, it was damp, black mould all over the place, and it was overridden by rodents. It was so bad that the noise they created kept us awake most of the night. Some of the party didn't sleep at all because of it. I reported all this the next morning and that we were leaving. The host was very difficult to deal with, more or less saying we were lying and that maybe we had too high expectations...I don't think expecting a clean rodent free house is too much of an expectation. Anyway, he offered a refund which was expected, then offered a refund minus the fees, we accepted to just put it behind us, then they dragged out the process by repeatedly telling me I had to leave a good review. It felt a bit like blackmail to be honest, and I'm not comfortable lying and feel terrible recommending this house to others. The house is nothing like it's described. It's not cosy, it's not romantic, and it's not clean. It's advertised as being on 4 acres as if it's beautiful gardens and walk areas, but in reality, most of the 4 acres is just a massively overgrown, unkept field. The house is also electrically unsafe. We arrived to not only find mouse traps in the kitchen, but every socket had an extension lead plugged into an extension lead. The majority of the sockets have the electronic pest control things. We counted 17 in total, and obviously, none of them work at all. My advice is to look elsewhere, Rooskey is a nice quiet location, but please find alternative accommodation.

The host made every effort to ensure my stay was comfortable & enjoyable. Sweet Meadow is very peaceful and has lots of rustic charm. All the facilities were in good order & the woodburner completes the package. A circular staircase was a nice surprise. The bathroom is modern & spacious. There is a nice orchard to the garden,which also has some furniture should the sun be out.

The portable heaters I believe would be challenged in autumn & winter to provide enough warmth in the cottage. Some people may find the activity in the thatch roof of concern, I expected it so no problem for me.

Nice central location,easy access to various attractions.

Beautiful house in a great location,could do with some central heating as it's quite cold,but having said that there's a little stove that heats the bottom end of house,there was a few electric heaters around the house that kept us warm.

The beds: We arrived late on Friday and headed out earlier yesterday for the Carrick Camino. The main thing for us is the beds were very comfortable so we got a good nights sleep.

I wasn’t there enough to criticise any part of it.

An experience in a very old thatched cottage

Cottage held a lot of internally moisture which smelt very musty in main bedroom. Outside yards need a lot of work and TLC.
