Sugarloaf Beach House & Surf Lodge

The location is so beautiful. It’s on the most beautiful beach where you can see sunrise and sunset. The garden leading onto the beach is lovely, peaceful, hammocks & palm tree shade to chill in. I felt very relaxed there. You can hear the ocean from your room. We got a last minute deal and had a triple room. It’s massive and lots of natural light, so we lucked out. Got a last minute discount at 30% off Car is ideal, 5 mins drive from town and a few mins from Playa Flores, however the beach that Sugar Loaf is on is much nicer. Owner was able to offer some helpful advice with waves and running routes.

I guess the feel they are going with is shabby. But there is so much potential with the property. Outside private shower was a dribble & didn’t drain so the soapy water sat there stagnant, eventually smelling. The other private shower is through the shared kitchen and a far distance from the rooms. We ended up using the beach shower. No hand soap in the shared bathroom. Did not provide towels. Room had barely any privacy as faced out into the garden, I didn’t mind this as the natural light was preferred over privacy. The other rooms looked super dark/no natural light. Ceiling fan didn’t work. Kitchen was okay but equipment & utensils seemed old/bit dirty. Plastic plates and bowls. Only 2 spoons. Took all day to get a surfboard. Price does not justify what is offered.

Super beautiful surroundings, right at the beach (almost empty at all times), perfect place to recharge your batteries!! Nothing nearby but easy to hitchhike to El Cuco/surf spots. Beds were comfortable but rest of the facilities very “simple”, f.ex. no hand soap, lots of mosquitoes in the room and bathroom - but to be expected.

The hostel is beach front and so easy to access the beach. It's really beautiful and peaceful. I really enjoyed the calm night. The people there are really kind and they gave me some tips for my traveling. If you're on a budget I definitely recommend this hostel!!!

It's not what I didn't like but be aware that there is not much public transportation going to where the hostel is so better that's in your mind!

What a beautiful location, I love the whole vibe of this place. The setting is absolutely stunning, the accommodation is simple and very comfortable, the hosts are so helpful and really good people, had everything I needed. Wish I could have stayed longer.
