Sugarloaf Beach House & Surf Lodge

Caoitlin is very friendly and helpful, and easy to contact. The view is amazing. You have direct access to the beach. Very nice common areas. You are out in nature.

It is not easy to arrive there. There is no sign outside on the main road to confirm this is the right access. Buses don't run every day, so you'll have to take a taxi or hitchhike - which works well and is safe. As this is the only hostel in El Cuco, I understand the price. There is no competition. And the common areas are very nice... but the shared dorm isn't finished. The door doesn't really close, there is no equipment inside, a lack of plugs, of hooks to put your towel, of night stands. The bathroom closes only by a curtain that does not stand still. It was OK because I was alone the night I stayed there, though. No soap on the sink. The light in the bathroom does not light enough to shower at night. The fact that all was in open air didn't help with the cleanliness. Although the common areas are in open air too and way more clean. All of the above would have been totally ok if the price had been twice or thrice lower - as is common in this region. But the shared dorm was not up to this standard, I think. I advise you to first lower the price and put it up once you have a more finished space. I guess because in El Cuco, there are only hotels, backpacking is not yet "a thing."

No breakfast at the place, there is a kitchen where you have the chance to prepare breakfast but it’s super dirty… all the pots, pans, and things for cook are in nasty condition .

The entrance of the place it’s horrible, if you doesn’t have a lift pick up as hilux or Tacoma you can not come in. Kitchen it’s really dirty Rooms are dirty , there not even clean sheets Full of mosquitos inside the place, spider nets , ants and more. It’s interesting to see the other feedbacks of the people , cause all make sense now. Pictures of one of the feedback it’s how this place really looks. Worst experience in El Salvador.

The peaceful, beachy feel, the outdoor shower (option for an indoor), the waves directly in front, the fisherman down the beach, the location - this property is absolute paradise. A short walk down a long sandy beach will take you to a cute cafe.

It was a bit challenging to find the correct entrance but only because of some current construction on the road and the locals were lovely in assisting. Also, Caitlin was very responsive, so if we had called, I'm sure she could've gotten us there faster.

Sweet location on the beach between punta mango and las Flores. Caitlin and Ramon were super accommodating and friendly, went out of their way to help me arrange rides and boards.

The property needs some TLC. If you’re looking for a super clean and cozy place, might not be the best fit.

Awesome spot on the beach. It could be so much better if it were cleaned up.

This place could be a lot better with some simple upkeep and cleaning. The trash in the kitchen just stayed there and the trash in bathrooms never got emptied.

We loved our stay here! It’s the perfect oasis to chill out, surf, read and fall asleep in hammocks. Would definitely recommend for any backpacker wanting a bit of a rest. The only thing is that it’s really difficult to get to and from so bring groceries (there are no restaurants or proper shops around) and expect to park up for a while

Come as a guest, leave as a friend. That could be the motto at Sugarloaf. Cata and Ramon are super hosts who make you feel at home instantly. If you look for a boutique fancy hotel, don't come here. At Sugarloaf, feel free to be you, sharing stories, beers and meals, enjoying a bonefire on the beach. That was a highlight in our Latino trip.

Maybe a sign on the gate could help to find the place. But it is also part of the adventure...

I had a fantastic stay at Sugarloaf! A lovely spot right on the beach, perfect for surfing and a relaxing stay. The owners are super friendly and helpful. They went the extra mile to ensure that I had a great stay. I only spent 2 nights there but could definitely have stayed much longer.

We had a great time there. This place is lovely and really peaceful. The host were amazing, really helpful and welcoming, plus they have the cutest dog. I recommend this place a 100%, thank you guys!
