Cosy Stable at Oak Farm

We liked the quiet. We liked the stars at night. We liked sitting outside with a drink and watching the skyline, the sheep in the fields, the free ranging hens and cocky rooster. Our hosts were friendly and engaging. Christopher fixed a flood outside our door during a downpour when we thought we might need wellies to get out. And, how about this: Alicia tracked us down at the local garden centre after we checked out and had my laptop briefcase in her hand. I find this remarkable.

I thought we would be in the Hall Inn (a couple hundred yards down the road) every night, but my wife didn't care for the place. The walk into Usk (nice town) for dinner was 1.5 hours if you sightsee along the way. The walk home was under the most wonderful starry sky, but we only walked the six-mile round trip once. That meant having evening meals in the cosy stable. We would have liked to have had a dish towel, if I have to nitpick.

Location was stunning. Hosts extremely welcoming and helpful. Homemade bread, preserves and basic needs as well as fresh flowers and fresh fruit from their trees really enhanced our stay. Our dog was made very welcome and fitted in well with the owners dog, chickens and sheep.

It was cosy and we loved the log burner which made the evenings very homely. The bed was amazingly comfortable.

This was a beautiful place, the accommodation was perfect and the area was outstanding. Alicia and Chris were exceedingly gracious, generous hosts. Warm fresh loaf of home baked bread, delicious fresh homemade jam, and marmalade. We will definitely be going back
