Das Frühstück war großartig, die Ruhe entspannend, die Villa gemütlich und heimelig, der Garten war das pure Paradies und die Hunde die Krönung! Danke, dass du uns zum Essen mit deinen Freunden oder auch in die hauseigene Kapelle und uns sogar zu dem Haus von Sciacca Leonardo mitgenommen hast. Deine Tipps für Restaurants waren großartig. We had a wonderful stay as a family with our 16-month-old daughter. Upon arrival, we were welcomed with a beautiful wooden crib, where our little one slept safely and peacefully. The property has a huge garden, perfect for children to explore and play freely. The surroundings are absolutely stunning – complete peace and quiet, with breathtaking nature all around. Our host, Alberto, was incredibly kind and welcoming. In the evenings, he treated us to excellent local wine, homemade olives, and delicious snacks. And the breakfast… simply the best we had in Sicily! Everything was homegrown, fresh, and incredibly tasty – especially the homemade jam, which was truly unforgettable. We highly recommend this place – a perfect choice for anyone looking for peace, nature, and genuine Sicilian hospitality.

This was the stand-out stay in our tour of Sicily! Villa Alessi is a historic olive farm (still in operation) and a home dating back centuries, in a beautiful location on a hillside close to Racalmuto and 20 minutes from the Valley of the Temples at Agrigento. Our host was Alberto Alessi, who has opened his lovely home to guests and who could not have been more sweet and accommodating. He is featured in John Keahey's latest book, Sicilian Splendors, and he lent us a copy to read. Our room was very comfortable with its own minisplit system to make us cozy on a chilly night despite the stone walls that surrounded us. The old house itself is beautiful, and full of antiques, paintings and photographs. Alberto presented us with amazing breakfasts at a time of our choosing, our places laid at a big dining table arrayed with everything we could possibly want - I felt as though I was in an Impressionist painting! A fire glowed in the fireplace in the corner and we felt like royalty. Alberto introduced us to his two beautiful Sicilian Shepherd dogs that just wanted to cuddle, told us where to find restaurants in Racalmuto, took us down into his orchards and showed us his olive trees, and even cleaned my muddy shoes for me! He was adept at using his smart phone to translate and help with his rudimentary English. This is the magical place I have continued to miss since we left and keep wishing we could return.

In retrospect it would have been helpful to have precise directions to the almost hidden gateway that leads to the Villa Alessi: it is situated on a sharp bend of a narrow road and the turn into the driveway is actually not possible from downhill as the bottom of the car would scrape - you have to turn round at the next junction and return from uphill in order to make the turn!
