"Convenient but pretty basic"

6.0

Location very convenient, 2 minutes from train station.Beds very comfortable.

Noise from neighbouring pub....bad at weekend. The living area was pretty basic and tired looking. Kitchen could have done with a bit more cutlery and maybe tea towels and washing up sponges. Yes, there is a dishwasher but when we used it everything came out with a white film. Perhaps we chose wrong programme.

"Charming cottage which immerses you in the Old Harwich experience! Very convenient position."

8.0

This is a lovely period cottage, in a great position in old Harwich, two doors away from a lovely new coffee shop, and with a very good fish and chip shop almost opposite, a small spa two minutes walk round the corner, a lively pub a couple of doors down, our favourite pub/restaurant, the Alma, and the Pier restaurant plus other varied pubs and cafes/restaurants all within a few short minutes walk. The ever fascinating Harwich Haven where the rivers Stour and Orwell converge, with Felixstowe docks opposite is at the end of the road - just two minutes walk. The Ha'penny Pier and Old Harwich historical attractions all very close by. Low tide is great for observing the birds, there are great coastal walks (and even a Banksie en route..), the Redoubt Fort and the Lighthouse museum is well worth a visit if you are lucky enough to find it open. Many of the old buildings have intersting maritime histories and there are lots of sea oriented festivals throughout the Summer. The foot/cycle ferry to Felixstowe and Shotley is 5 mins walk up the road. There is beach in Harwich, but best swimming beach to be found 15 minutes away on foot on the Harwich/ Dovercourt East side of the coast. The water is clean and relatively safe - it is a quiet blue flag beach. It is The house has comfortable beds with new, soft bedding, fewsh carpets in the bedrooms, a television in the lounge and in each bedroom, a small but decently equipped kitchen and a nice shower in the bathroom on first floor. We loved the fact we could bring our dog with us. Take note that there are wooden, open structure stairs to first floor, and steep, carpeted stairs to second floor. (These stairs are a feature of nearly all these local period houses) This was fine for us, but worth being aware of if you have any mobility issues. Paul was very friendly and accommodating in his communications with us and the ladies that came in to housekeep as we left were charming.

Slightly awkward positioning of bed in upstairs room under the sloping roof (possibly to accommodate an extra single bed if needed) however, centralising its position would avoid having to get in and out of bed in an awkward position if sleeping on that side. There was no means to make coffee in the kitchen, which is a must for me! A coffee maker or simply a cafetiere would be great before our next visit please! The coffee shop about three doors down does serve excellent coffee, however...

The cottage was beautiful and clean with two big double bedrooms and even provided towels and shampoo conditioner and body wash so you didn’t have to worry about those! Has Wi-Fi which is good cos we could watch Netflix! Kitchen fully equipped with everything you need! The bed was super comfy! Located in a good place only 30 mins from Clacton and walton on the Naze!

Brilliant accommodation, very clean,excellent location.

Unfortunately the pub nearby was very noisy . We stayed at the weekend and the noise from the pub kept us awake with people walking past the accommodation making loads of noise at closing time.
