"Bathroom was not private, insecure locks, and host demanded card details despite prepaid booking"

1.0

The host chose an earlier check-in time, which allowed me to drop my bags at 2 p.m. The cottage and the house are both beautifully decorated and charming in style. The antique store was also cute and the restaurant seemed very accessible but I did not go in.

- The “private bathroom” was in the building more than 10 feet away and through the kitchen past sitting areas and in full view of others, with no signage marking it a private bathroom, making it easy for anyone to mistake as shared. - The bathroom had only a flimsy “privacy” lock that could be popped open from the hallway with a stick, and that stick was literally on the wall next to the door sticking up from the air conditioning meter. - The same code was used for both the Inn and the Cottage, so any guest could have entered where I was staying. - When I asked if I could switch to a room with a bathroom attached (and even said I would have paid the difference), she accused me of “asking for privileges at no cost” (direct quote) and suggested I find another hotel. - Shortly after asking about the other room, she demanded my credit card details by text twice to charge me for bottled water I never requested, even though the stay was prepaid and there was no reason to need it as I was not purchasing anything. - When I explained why I was leaving, she dismissed me as “paranoid.” (Again, her words.) - While the host mentioned she had surgery the day before and I felt for her (hence offering to change my sheets,) I paid the Booking.com price in full. It is not acceptable to charge any guest a listed rate and then excuse reduced services by saying it wasn’t “full price” compared to her own website for merely asking a question. Guests are entitled to receive exactly what was advertised on the platform where they booked. If hosting is not feasible during recovery, the appropriate step is to block bookings, not to blame paying guests. For these reasons, I left the property and secured another hotel at my own expense.

Kari was extremely attentive to our stay and we enjoyed sitting under the grapevines sipping wine and nibbling cheeses.

"We enjoyed conversing with the host over coffee and continental breakfast. Wonderful stay!"

10.0

It is a 19th century homestead that has been updated and lovingly converted into a B&B. The gracious host--who operates the nearby antiques shop--has furnished it with lots of period furniture, and everywhere you look there are fascinating details and curios to contemplate.

"A person could definitely get lost in a different time period if so inclined! Wonderful!"

8.0

The property and all antics/furnishing was next level. We thought the owner/operator was wonderful. Very engaging. A person could tell she had a lot on her mind and her enthusiasm was contagious. It was what I thought a B&B should be like. I think spending more time there for multiple nights would paint a better picture which would improve upon an already great experience! Such as getting to mingle with the other guests. And there's more to do, which we didn't get to since passing through, so we look forward to potentially another visit!

We weren't quite sure where to go when we arrived. We walked into an empty house hesitantly and resulted to sending a text. After that, all was well. When we got back from dinner the keypad to back door didn't work but we walked around to another door and it worked. So all good! Part of the experience as far as I'm concerned.
