Pankaj bhaiya was a great guy, his food was yummy, very homelike. He is the cook and caretaker here at HouseTale and in the absence of Armaan Ji, he made us feel at home, kept the place clean, prepared food at the last hour when we asked him to as our return ride got delayed. Armaan ji also gave us early checkin so kudos to that. Very serene environment, loved the energy of the place, calm, peaceful, away from worldy chaos.

Location is a little far, you woyldnt find totos from this spot to any location but the vice versa is pretty convenient. Food prices are a little high but for a food like that taste, it was worth it. Loved even simple dal chawal sabzi made by Pankaj ji.

Quiet location in between Gaya and Bodh Gaya. Clean, has all facilities and accessible enough to all places by scooter. Cheerful and welcoming folks, great vibe. Definitely coming back someday, would recommend to all travellers!

Nice garden chill areas, dorm bedding clean, AC in one dorm 9am to 9pm, geyzer/shower good, standard toilet, exhaust fan, sprayer, sink, handsoap, good views upstairs. Another squat toilet around back, can add another shower easy, small shared kitchen, shoes off inside a pain sometimes, plenty of potential for growth. Parking for a car or two.

1.3 km from even basic food, another km to main market. Road dark, isolated at night, but seems safe. Tuk tuks, but must haggle for 20 rp ride.

I booked for 3 nights and ended up staying 6. Housetale is an oasis of tranquility amidst the craziness of India. A place to read, meditate, do yoga, contemplate and ofcourse connect to fellow travellers. The location is quite secluded giving it an intimate, retreat-like vibe. I had a great time, made new friends and hostel owner is so kind, involved and funny. He even organised a bbq for all the guests. Highly recommend staying here!

AC: My booking includes AC under the list of features. I was told I actually booked a non-AC room even after I showed them the booking. To turn the AC on they charged me 500 rupees extra. If you look under the list of features, it appears that they just check everything. No, they do not have a fireplace, netflix, terrace, or AC included. Bedding: My bottom sheet and pillow case smelled ok but the duvet cover reeked of body odor. It very clearly had not been cleaned. It was completely unusable due to the smell. Checkout: They did not accept payment by credit card. So, I paid in cash. They said they did not have any change at all and would not give me any change back. They offered to give me a bunch of water bottles to make up the difference, but I didn't want to lug around liters of water all day. Forcing me to buy water is not the same thing as giving me change. Location: Very remote. This could be a good thing if you want meditative vibes, but I felt it was too remote. On the map, it looks fairly close to the center of Bodh Gaya, but it's in the middle of farmland. It is impossible to get a rickshaw without basically walking into Bodh Gaya (40 min walk). The person who worked there would not assist me with getting a ride. Also, there is no terrace or rooftop views at all, which would be one of the perks of staying in the countryside. There is only the enclosed ground-floor courtyard. This place advertises itself as a cute backpacker hostel. The decor was admittedly cute, but it is not worth it due to the cleanliness issues and overcharging.
