City Apartments - John Walker House

This is a lovely, comfortable flat in a fantastic location. There are two comfortable bedrooms and two bathrooms. A strong point is the noise insulation - even though my companion listens to the radio at night, I could not hear this. The open plan kitchen/dining/sitting and TV area was very comfortable and well - equipped. There was a lovely balcony overlooking the River Foss, although the local pigeons try hard to share the space! The location of the flat was excellent. Plenty of small and interesting restaurants in the neighbourhood, and York city centre could be reached within a five minute walk by crossing a bridge over the River. A small Tescos is within 3 minutes walk, and M&S food hall about 8 minutes away. The property management company were highly responsive to my queries on WhatsApp.

The only real problem we encountered was using the washing machine. We could not switch it on and the property management company could not help. Late we found that there was a master switch on an opposite wall and this had been set to off. A very minor problem. The blinds are also a type that are difficult to use, and the blinds in one of the bedrooms did not roll up properly.

Great location to shops and restaurants and private parking very useful.

No fans working in either of the bathrooms and with no windows either it smelt very musty throughout the flat. The flat was not ready at 3pm the cleaner was still in there for a good 40 minutes after this. There were pigeons nesting on the balcony and the patio table snd chairs were filthy and hadn’t been cleaned in a while covered in bird poo etc

Good quiet location comfy beds and lounge.

Balcony was not clean. Lots of birds droppings and looked like it hadn’t been swept or cleaned for a while. We couldn’t use it.

The location was excellent, with easy access to local attractions, making it very convenient for getting around and exploring the area. The apartment itself was spacious and well laid out, which made our stay very comfortable. Having two bathrooms was a big plus, especially for convenience and privacy. Overall, a very enjoyable stay and a great choice for anyone looking for a comfortable and well-located place.

There were a few downsides during our stay. Although the listing states the apartment can accommodate up to six guests, only three sets of bedding were provided. I requested additional bedding shortly after booking but did not receive a response. I contacted the host again upon arrival and was informed that this would not be possible. This was inconvenient, as we had to purchase an extra blanket during our stay. Additionally, the balcony was unusable due to a pigeon nest with chicks, which was disappointing as we were unable to make use of that space.
