Huckleberry House - La Bruyere Farm

Lovely Farm House perfect for winter stays with everything you need.

Fireplace in the bedroom left the room a bit smokey.

The house, it's furnishings and facilities such as dishwasher, washing machine and crockery

Missing a booklet explaining walks on the farm, giving wifi code, name of friendly dog etc.

Lovely location and terrific experiences like dam and sauna. Safe and odd staff member working around the house was most polite and unobtrusive.. I would love to return and just spend time on the farm and in the kol kol, the dam.

There were so many great aspects. What I would like to suggest though: 1. More black dustbin bags and possibly an ave of 2 dishwashing cubes per day 2. Lights on patio did not work, except for the string lights. Needed a light for braai, but we could use the torches. Curtains in the east facing bedrooms (Bali) windows for latter summer morning sleep-ins. Possibly recycling bins. Just suggestions and no complaints.

Huckleberry Construction Shocker. My "Poor Online Rating" for Huckleberry is the direct result of a problematic construction site almost right on the doorstep of the Huckleberry holiday house premises. While a special note on the Bookings.com/Huckleberry website claims that Huckleberry is The Perfect Place to Make Special Memories, I was told via a shocker phone call shortly before arrival that construction activities on the site would proceed full steam for the duration of our stay because of operational delays. This one-sided bossy style decision by Huckleberry was in sharp contrast with the Note on the Bookings/Huckleberry site where Huckleberry states "that construction times are carefully planned around guest bookings so that your stay at Huckleberry should not be disturbed". While I strongly objected to the continued construction activities, Huckleberry decided in another one-sided and insensitive step to bully me into a 30% refund in order to compensate for the inconvenience caused by the continued construction activities. I rejected the 30% refund offer at that early stage for several reasons. Huckleberry then simply continued with their construction work, causing so much disturbance that a team leader apologised for the inconvenience. After thorough consideration, I informed HB a few days later that I have decided to accept the 30% refund offer. HB then withdrew their offer. At this stage I can without any doubt state that I will never again make use of the HB accommodation facility, or recommend the facility to anybody. Remote, quite and lovely

Gravel road - but that is part of the charm

The views are amazing and the house was well-equipped with comfortable beds and lovely finishes. We had a swim in the dam and had lovely walks with our Labrador along the various routes. It is far enough from town to feel remote and close enough to drive there daily for a bite to eat or an excursion to a wine farm. We have a Honda Jazz and had no trouble with the gravel road.

We have few complaints. The owners seem to be building 2 more houses close to Huckleberry, but building seemed to be paused while we were there. The hot tub takes closer to 2 hours to heat up when the water is very cold, so start early the first day. Luckily there was more than enough wood to heat it up and it was still hot the following day.

Our group of friends had the most relaxing stay at La Bruyere Farm. We loved the sauna, hot tub and waterfall hike.
