Canopy Lodge - Boutique Lodge at Hakuba Cortina

Canopy Lodge is an amazing place to stay - incredibly comfortable & great location. The owners and staff are so friendly and the food is incredible. I highly recommend staying here. Truly one of the best places I have ever stayed.

We chose to stay at Canopy on a recommendation of a friend who had stayed there just before covid. I had read zero reviews before reserving a room, just verified that it was close to Cortina, which it is, maybe 5 minutes before you can ski down to the lift lines for either Cortina or Norikura (coming back it's about 3 minutes, since you can ski down part of the way before you get to the road). The room was very comfortable. Food at the restaurant was great, though very western-focused; we took a shuttle to Tsugaike two of the four nights to get Japanese food instead. The free continental breakfast was adequate to get us through 4+ hours of skiing before lunch. Mike's sourdough bread only comes with the hot breakfast which by itself is almost reason enough to get it for only 1500y/person, but we skipped it a couple of mornings because we'd grown a little tired of scrambled eggs on the trip. And having our server issue our lift tickets during breakfast after our original 5-day pass had expired was a great convenience. Everyone was exceptionally friendly, welcoming and helpful during our stay and it was a very warm, inclusive environment to come back to each day.

Great little boutique lodge. Lovely room, breakfast and dinners. The food was outstanding. The hosts were very helpful and helped with everything we needed.

As we were travelling from Australia, it would have been good to know that they would provide a shuttle from Happo to Cortina upon arrival. I didn't get the email from them advising of this until we were in Japan and we had trouble accessing emails at the time. So maybe an intro email a week before?

was likely due to the unusually warm weather, but the lounge/dining area as well as the rooms could be quite toasty. easily fixed by cracking a window though.

Mike and Emily are the best hosts! The lodge is very cozy, and the homecooked meals are so delicious. It’s our second stay and we would come again anytime.
