Fragrant Nature Munnar - A Five Star Classified Hotel

Stunning views, gardens with flower arrangements. Balcony dining. Cooking demonstration. Enormous suite with two bathrooms, terrass, fireplaces and jacuzzi.

Minor remark: no shade at the pool area.

The staff at check-in were very pleasant. The hotel is well located, around 15 minute drive from Munnar town. The view from our room was very beautiful, the pool is lovely and our room was comfortable and large.

This does not feel like a 5 star hotel experience at all, and several things really let the hotel down. Firstly, their website states they have a bar. There was no bar to be found. So, in the evenings, there is no nice communal area to sit and socialize with an alcoholic drink, just a rather weird "games room". Generally the atmosphere at the hotel is quite depressing and honestly I didn't see any guest crack a smile the whole 3 nights we were there. Secondly, the food was quite nice but extremely overpriced; it was 5 times more expensive than a meal we had in Munnar town and not nearly as tasty. But the worst experience of all was the spa, where I had the worst massage of my life. I arrived for my appointment and a grumpy spa receptionist just glared at me when I told her I was there for a massage; she began muttering with her colleague before responding to me (it was 7pm and it was like she wanted to go home & was annoyed with me - but I'd made an appointment!). To my discomfort I quickly learned that this was the lady who was going to be administering my massage. Where to begin? Terrible massage technique, no finesse, simultaneously too soft AND too hard in all the wrong moments. The ambience in the room was all wrong (ticking clock, ringing phone, at one point I opened an eye to see that she was checking her phone). What was unforgiveable was the lack of training in regards to properly draping towels for modesty. After she massaged my back she brusquely told me to turn over. I placed a towel to cover my chest, to which she pulled it off of my body and then massaged my breasts with no consent. When I explained this all to the man at reception upon check-out, he just shrugged and gave me a feedback form to fill in - no concern expressed, no apology, and certainly no refund or discount offered.

The view from our room was amazing. The pool was beautiful. The staff was very helpful.

The gym can use an urgent update. The rooms are a bit dated and need some upgrades. Breakfast was mediocre.
