Paea's Guest House

We read some poor reviews about the property but decided to book because it is sooo hard to find an accommodation in Tonga that actually replies to msssages. This one was budget friendly and seemed like they wanted to have a guest coming to stay with them as they replied to our emails right away. We decided to give it a try and we were positively surprised!! The room was big and very clean. The bed linens and towels were very clean too and we saw the owner washing everything after a guest left - even the blankets. We had access to the kitchen but we didn’t cook. But it was good to keep things in the fridge. The accommodation is a room on a family house owned by a Tonga woman and the bathroom is only shared between two guests bedrooms. She picked us up from the airport in the middle of the night and shared a lot of information about the city with us. We felt safe and looked after - and most importantly we felt welcome! The manager is always available on whatsapp and responded quickly to our messages. They were so welcoming and accommodating and even gave us a free upgrade and placed us on the house next door (all by ourselves) which was also clean and comfortable. We would recommend this place to everyone coming to Tonga’s main island.

It was a long walk to the city centre but the owner offered us free rides in the morning to the city centre and the taxi back at the end of the day only costs Top$10 which is very cheap. It is a nice walk to the ferry to Tongaimotu island as well.

The host was great very welcoming, you get what you pay for the room is nothing to rave about. It had a bed and I used it for sleeping. If you are into luxury this is not the place for you.

If you are a light sleeper this is not for you, had a dog barking under my window at all hours.

An electric fan would be helpful especially during summer time.

They did get us into our room quickly and efficiently when we arrived at 2am

Woken up at 630am by the host's child playing the TV at full blast. The host herself disappeared, leaving us with no-one to pay other then the child. The room had very little privacy and was used to store a broken mirror. It was a long way out of town. Not a nice introduction to Tonga. Quite cheap admittedly but actually more than the marvellous lodge we are staying in in Samoa! THE RESPONSE IS WORRYING. WHOEVER NEIL IS, AND UNLESS HE IS THE TEN YEAR OLD BOY WHO SEEMS TO RUN THE PLACE WE DID NOT MEET HIM AND HE SEEMS TO HAVE NO IDEA ABOUT THE PLACE. CERTAINLY NOT BEING ABLE TO ADDRESS THE TV ISSUE MEANINGFULLY IS A SIGN OF JUST HOW NEGLECTED IN EVERYWAY THIS DIRE PROPERTY IS
