The Tavern at Hale

The breakfast was well cooked and tasty. We also enjoyed an evening meal. The choice was a bit limited but what we chose was very good. The staff were very helpful and made us feel at home. The decor was light and airy both in the bar and in the bedroom.

The bedroom was comfortable and warm but a bit spartan. The only mirror was in the bathroom and being short it was difficult for me to see. The bathroom was also quite adequate but would be improved by a stand for the toilet rolls, rather than loose on the shelf. The shower would also benefit from a shelf and ideally a grab rail. These are small quibbles.

Lovely room , comfortable bed , great shower , easy check-in , nice to have separate access to rooms via external door , staff friendly, having the restaurant is a bonus too

Coffee machine couldn’t use , wasn’t sure how the cups were meant to fit under the flow of coffee and didn’t want to make a mess , maybe the information booklet needs refreshing slightly worn

Prices of items, lack of food items ( 5 English breakfasts all came with different quantities of food items). Noise from staff playing music was horrendous

The room was comfortable and the two young women working in the restaurant were lovely, I couldn’t fault them. The location was good for exploring the area.

The room was not finished to a great standard, the shower tiles were mouldy and the glasses and cups provided needed washing before we could use them. We decided to eat our evening meal in the restaurant, as we had looked online at the menu which was huge and looked great. However once we’d sat at our table and ordered a drink, we were given the menu which was much smaller. The food was subpar and left us relieved we’d not booked breakfast. The above could’ve been overlooked if it weren’t for the experience we had once back in our room for the night. We were consistently disturbed by what I can only describe as screaming and shouting from the staff throughout the night after the pub had closed. At one point, around 11:30 at night, the young man who was the chef, and I presume the manager, came pounding up the stairs towards the guest rooms and shouted back down the stairs a load of expletives aimed at one of the women. The argument continued into the night in their room which was above ours. Furniture was being dragged around and at once point we heard a loud scream. We were genuinely not far off calling the police. We felt unsafe to go out and check if everything was okay. In the morning when checking out, another couple who had stayed asked if we’d heard all the shouting which had obviously disturbed all 4 rooms of guests on the single landing. The young man checked us out which meant we didn’t feel comfortable to raise any of our concerns as he was the person we believe was shouting most of the night. Honestly aside from being hugely disappointed, we were concerned for the young woman or women who we think were subject to the abusive language and behaviour. If we had seen either of them in the morning we would’ve asked if she was okay and if she needed help. Extremely upsetting and uncomfortable stay, I would not feel safe for any of my family or friends to stay here.

Great location for what we needed. We stayed last year as well and feel it was just as good!
