Royal Escape Windsor

we loved it! the location was great, boat really nicely decorated and kitted out and check in procedures straightforward.

beds are a little small for two people, but that is understandable.

Loved the location and was totally different than the normal accommodation we'd book. We had lots of visiting ducks, swans and geese which made you feel you were away from the usual humdrum. The hosts were great and were at hand promptly when we needed them. All in all we had a lovely time, made even better with our stay on Boaty McBoatface; sorry that's what we renamed the boat!

We did have trouble with the WiFi but to be honest it wasn't something we felt the need to pester our hosts with as it was a breath of fresh air to not be able to connect. The upper deck was definitely more of a technology hot-spot if required.

The ease of self check-in. Central location. Comfy beds. Plenty of towels. Christmas decorations and Christmas lights were a nice touch. Easily reachable hosts.

The wood burner was broken and difficult to keep alight which we'd hoped to given the time of year. Power was a bit sketchy to begin with but host was quick to assist and run the boat engine to re-charge the batteries - although was a little noisy and inside smelt of diesel. Shower would suddenly run absolutely scolding hot intermittently. Kitchen facilities weren't the cleanest, fridge/freezer also smelt. Plates put back wet in the cupboard.

The location is fantastic, a short walk to town and carpark but very quiet. Stunning views across The Thames. The barge is modern and spacious, fun design, 2 ensuite cabins. We enjoyed a night cap up on deck after an evening at the races. Tip...there is a cut through from the Windsor and Eton Riverside railway carpark to the barge, down the side of The Boatman Pub.

Barge badly maintained. 1 toilet out of order, dishwasher out of order, shower hoses leaked, one shower drained very slowly, one cooker hob knob broken and potentially dangerous, roof near kitchen leaked, periods without power even though the generator was run, no hot water until the engine was run , no breakfast included ( says it is on booking. con), water level very low and was topped up on 2nd day.
