Malloom Cottage

The property is clean, well-maintained, comfortable and offers full kitchen/scullery facilities (dishwasher, washing machine) which is really super. The location is central and exactly what we were looking for. I needed to check in earlier than 14h00 and this was accommodated; I was very grateful for this kindness.

I had expected an allocated parking bay but it is first come first serve. That was really the only aspect; but I was fortunate as a parking opened so I took it and didn't really move my car much afterwards. I don't like to park my car on the street.

The property is clean, well equipped, light and airy. it’s very close to the Dalebrook tidal pool and the water excellent Chardonnay Deli. I wouldn’t hesitate in staying again hopefully next year.

The cottage has an awful smell in the bathroom that I see others have complained about before, smells like drains. Not a good place if you're a light sleeper, the cottage is right next to the main road which is far noisier/busier than I expected and the room is not very soundproof. We had an issue with the security gate the first time we left the cottage and when we returned it wouldn't open - the lock was jammed and after contacting the host who sent someone we managed to get it open, the host then arrived later and sprayed some lubricant to help the mechanism and said he'd replace the lock the next day - we never heard or saw him again and we didn't trust the lock so left the security gate unlocked for the rest of our stay. When we left it wouldn't lock so glad we didn't risk it over the stay and find ourselves locked out repeatedly, but definitely not the best communication or service. We also saw a few cockroaches in the kitchen coming in/out of cracks behind the stove top. Sofa is a little worn out (e.g. the arm rest has been flattened) and generally feels like the place could use some attention and care.

Had everything I needed and more! Loved the location - walked everywhere and enjoyed a swim in the tidal pool across the road each morning

The property and its location were great.

I found the owner unprofessional and, quite frankly, rude for the following reasons. 1. Within a few days of booking the accommodation months before the trip I paid a breakages deposit and sent the required POP. The day before we arrived, I was again asked to pay the deposit and send the POP. Surely this should have been on record. 2. In the days leading up to the trip, I twice asked if there was any chance of an early check-in. I received absolutely no response. 3. The property has first come, first served parking, which I was fully aware of and fine with. On the day we arrived, it was full, so we parked behind another car right by the door to the apartment to offload our luggage. Within minutes, the owner was calling to tell us to move our car, which we fully intended to do once the luggage was unpacked (10 minutes max and we would have moved the vehicle had the owner of the other car needed to go out). Anyone who knows Kalk Bay knows parking is an issue. Did he expect us to haul our luggage for kilometers? 4. On the day of our very early departure we tried to put the keys to the apartment in the lockbox. However, there were already two sets of keys in the box so it was impossible to fit them in. I had to hide them within the leaves of a pot plant by the door of the apartment. I messaged the owner to inform him of this and am yet to receive a response. I work in the international travel industry and this is certainly not the way to do business.

Location is perfect. Walking distance to shops and restaurants. Weather permitting, the outside space although shared is great.

Parking for larger vehicles is extremely tight. The apartment was beautifully clean, however no dishcloths available to clean up after using the kitchen sink.
