May Kim Ta Phin Homestay

Chan May was really helpful and kind. She helped us with booking a taxi and arranged that we could have breakfast early. She even gave us a free room upgrade! Also the herbal bath (150.000đ per person) and the dinner with the family (also 150.000đ per person) was really good!

Where do I start with May Kim Homestay? I was met with warmth, generosity & kindness. I was quite literally welcomed into the Dzao home, and got to experience living along side the family, and sharing meals and laughter for the time that I did spend relaxing at the house. May Chang kindly assisted me with arranging a trip across the valley to experience batik and indigo dyeing with the Hmong women, as well as booking my rental motorbike to independently get around on my visit to SaPa. Ta Phin is quite a distance at 25 minutes drive from the town so you're highly advised to get your on rental motorbike (moped) so that you can reap the benefits of getting away from the busy market town and off the beaten track for the peace and scenery of the local area. If you are interested in textiles, heritage and herbalism then this is a fine place to be. Don't forget to invest in some relaxation by having a traditional herbal Dzao bath at this homestay ~ The Dzao bath here was as original to it's roots as it can be.. after having one in central SaPa later on in my stay before I left, my rating for potency of herbal bath at May Kim was the best. The spa's in central SaPa were not as strong and aromatic as the true original created by the Dzao women themselves. Thank you so much for everything during my stay with you :)

This is a traditional homestay, if you want ultra comfort (i.e a soft/sofa chair to relax on) look for a hotel. But only you can make leap to get something truly authentic and this homestay provided just that. Thank you for the experience.

Loved the feeling of sharing with a family instead of being in a hotel. They are all lovely 🩷 the herbal bath (extra cost) was out of this world!

Bit far from the town but it's also what makes it special

It's an outstanding experience to stay with the family of Chan May. You will learn so much about the Red Dao, the ethnicity they belong to. It's so special to stay there since they still live in the house from five generations in the past, with a fireplace, an old kitchen and they still have facilities from the past. Guests are accommodated in a newly built annex next to their house. Chan May shares so much info about their daily lives and her English is AMAZING!! I had such a great time exchanging and learning from her and she is such a sweet person. You can book herbal steam baths there (did it twice before going to bed, incredibly nice), herbs get collected and prepared by the family in the forest. Don't miss out on eating dinner with them, everything freshly harvested from their own fields. You can even go on a little tour with them to their fields and get to learn about their daily life. It was such a great experience to stay there, thank you so much!!

Wonderful homestay- family are so lovely. Dinner is also organic and fresh from their garden. Highly recommend.
