"Really loved it and host was exceptionally helpful."

8.0

Location was brilliant for seeing the sights. Apartment was very spacious, and parking easily available in front of the apartment.

Interior could do with a bit of updating, but it had a huge amount of charm.

"We adapted to the quirkiness of Scorrabrae but overall were disappointed and felt it fell well short of the standards on"

4.0

A warm friendly welcome, great location with spectacular views across Scapa Flow. The home is very spacious and full of character being a former pub, with plentiful seating, nice fluffy towels and generally well cleaned despite its worn features. A fascinating collection of books, games and other paraphernalia are available for guests. A large party of adults or two families would enjoy this so long as they are comfortable sleeping in close proximity with limited privacy.

The kitchen space, whilst large, has not been upgraded from its life as a commercial kitchen. Equipment, whilst plentiful, ( four fridges) is of mixed quality - one pan being actually rusty. The huge gas oven is somewhat daunting to use. I think a group of nine people would struggle with the single bathroom which, to be generous, is basic. The shower rail held together with string and gaffer tape is not what one expects in a place costing £400 per night. How did a pub function with only one loo?

"Lovely views, spacious, rural"

8.0

Patricia, the hostess, was great. The views were spectacular across the fields to the water, especially in the mornings. The space was roomy with 2 large bedrooms, a queen and 2 singles in one room, a queen, and 1 single in the other. The kitchen was huge and well equipped. Because it was a bar in the past, the layout was different, but we knew that going in. We loved the daily visits of her pet sheep Peedie, the chickens looking through the windows, and the general rural feel. We were close to everything. The Co-op in Stromness wasn't far for groceries. We would definitely stay again.

We did have some trouble getting the oven going. The weak spot was the bathroom, which was scheduled for repair but hadn't happened yet. Patricia got it working for us in the interim. The TV was a standard, not a smart tv.If you're looking for upscale, this isn't it. If you're willing to feel at home in a rural area, this is it.

"Fabulously interesting, very spacious and rustic house - former pub!"

10.0

Amazing and interesting place! It used to be a pub, so there's a bar in the living room. Host provided peat charcoal to burn in the little fireplace. Large "commercial" kitchen that used to support the pub, so don't expect a stylish residential kitchen. That said, there are two refrigerators and lots of prep space. Bathroom is very minimal, but my grown daughters LOVED staying here with the neighbor's animals straying into our yard, the dart board in the living room, and the beautiful rustic surroundings outside of the city. Everyone got their own bed, and there was lots of room to spread out for a family of 5. Would highly recommend staying here if you want a taste of local color (**Note: if you're looking for a polished hotel or professional bed and breakfast, this is not the place.**)

There's really nothing the host could improve on - it was clean, plenty of linens, lots of kitchenware, so we had a nice home-cooked dinner. But it's best to set expectations accurately - this is an older home, with limited plumbing and a single bare-bones bathroom. The neighbor has farm animals, so there are more flies than would probably be otherwise. It's also a bit of a drive outside of town (definitely not in "walking distance" to anything!), and during certain parts of the year, transportation can be challenging - guests should plan accordingly.
