Hau'oli Place Tiki Cottage in Volcano

Beautiful little place with gorgeous grounds and very close to Volcanoes NP (like a 7 min drive).

Only fault was the sofa bed was not very comfortable. Probably fine for one person but two people (one adult, one child) was pushing it. Perfect for a couple or even a couple and a child.

I can't say enough good things! We've stayed in Volcano 3 times over the years and this property exceeded expectations in every way. Just a few minutes drive from Volcano Village and the National Park. Just off the highway but on a very quiet residential street - quite easy to find, even after dark. After a long day of hiking and exploring, this property was a wonderful place with space to relax, which we could not say about our previous experiences, though all were very nice. The pictures are accurate and the house is nicely decorated in a mixture of tropical themes and Hawaiian kitsch. The balcony (which we didn't use) is huge for the size house that it is, with nice lighting, and a beautiful back yard. While there was no dehumidifier that I could find, we found that unnecessary. There is a nice fireplace to provide heat and electric blankets if it gets too chilly (which it did!). Very well appointed kitchen with everything you would need to cook meals. Great owner who was very responsive and lives next door.

Not a criticism at all but worth noting that there is a light post right in the middle of the driveway. Not hard to avoid but also easy to clip a mirror if you're not paying attention!

This is an amazing property that is designed and maintened to a fantastic level. Inside is decorated with traditional Hawaiian furnishings and collectibles. Outside is amazingly lush and landscaped with gorgeous flowers and plants. The hosts are very communicative and very helpful. They have an abundance of information on activities in the area.

The place was clean. Interesting decor and a great yard.

The name is totally appropriate- truly a happy place! Beautifully decorated and comfortable, with a gas fireplace, full kitchen, large lanai with grill and a fire pit on the lawn. Bed was very comfortable, heated mattress was a plus! We are kama’aina who have been coming to Volcano for years and Hau’oli Tiki Cottage was by far the best place we have ever stayed at.

Lovely grounds and comfortable house full of "tiki" charm. Wonderful spaces inside and out to hang out in. The backyard and lanai were exceptional. Comfortable bed and well-equipped kitchen. Close to Hawaii Volcanos National Park and the village of Volcano. Be sure to go to the farmer's market at Cooper Community Center on Sundays (6-10 am) Appreciated that the local caretakers, Mark and Lucretia, were very responsive when two of the three fans in the unit were inoperable. They provided table fans within minutes to make sure our stay was comfortable. Would highly recommend

Location is fabulous and we absolutely loved hanging out on the covered porch while waiting for Kilauea to start erupting! We loved how green and lush the grounds were and appreciated the full kitchen that came with coffee, sugar, creamers, salt, pepper, oil. This place has a nice ambiance and was nice to come back to relax after a day hiking the volcano trails or enjoying the beaches in Hilo. We needed to adjust our dates around the volcano's activity, and the hosts were very responsive. We didn't have any issues, but if you did, the caretakers live in a separate house next door and are easy to get ahold of. I saw another review ask about the water, we both drank it for 6 days and had no issues at all. The bed was comfortable and there were drawers and closet space enough to unpack the suitcases and settle in. We stayed in mid-July and were never too hot, the temperature was very comfortable.

Water pressure in the shower is very low. But you're surrounded by paradise and close to Volcano National Park, so it is manageable. A few beach towels would have been nice but there were plenty of spare normal bath towels. Neither bad nor good but just an FYI for those with limited mobility: there is a steep flight of stairs to get into the house, or a short flight of stairs around back and a bit of an uphill walk over gravel.
