"Horrendous and appalling"

1.0

The location of the property was exceptional as it was a very short walk to the harbour. If you have young children, then there were plenty of games provided for them to play. We had very little problem with the parking as there is room outside on the street. The shower was always hot.

Avoid. On arrival, we had no communication from the owner despite several messages across days requesting how to enter the property. After several hours of driving from West Yorkshire and having completed our food shopping, still no knowledge of how to access the property. We even asked the neighbours if they could help with any information regarding how to get into contact with the owners. Eventually, we had a message from the owners who were abroad, and they gave us the key safe number. The bins outside were full, and the flagged area leading to the front door was very unkempt, to say the least. There were windows left open, and when we stepped inside, we understood why as there was a strong smell of damp. The whole property needed a deep clean. The kitchen floor hadn't been mopped. Cutlery, pans, etc, were dirty. Chipped crockery. NO HOT WATER IN THE KITCHEN FOR 3 DAYS. The hoover was full, so it needed emptying prior to use, and the filter was disgusting, so we had to wash it before we could hoover the house through. The dryer was full, so the filter needed emptying. We never even tried to open the bifold doors in the kitchen as we had taken our dog and the back garden was extremely overgrown, and it had a pond, so be careful if you have a dog. There are 2 dining tables but each only gave 6 chairs which is disappointing for an eight bedroomed house as this meant that we couldn't all sit together. The bunk beds appeared unsafe for teenagers, so they slept on the pull out bed instead. The bathroom door has a key to lock it, but the lock takes time to work, so again, be aware if you have children. We had to leave the bedroom windows open on a night due to the damp, but the seagulls on a morning are in full voice. The largest bedroom door rattles constantly. Our bed was damp, so we left our duvet pulled back every morning.

Great location, just a short walk down to the harbour.

It really needs a bit of TLC.

"The house is spacious for families, location is great but needs a good tidy up"

6.0

The location of the property was great, plenty of crockery, glasses cooking utensils etc. good sized freezer and fridge and lots of downstairs space and some nice artwork. the bedrooms were spacious with enough wardrobes and draws for storage. 2 good sized tables and chairs for dining with family. Plenty of toys and games provided. It’s a house with a lot of room for 6 people and close to the village centre and you can park outside the house on the road.

This was a late booking on our behalf booked on the 5th July and arrived on the 10th we paid £740 for 4 nights. When contacting the host for key info at 15.42 and then again 15.53 there was no answer so I left voice mails, we then got a text after 4pm saying our booking had been communicated to her late but gave us the key code and requested our email for house info. We never got that! The 2nd text about 10 mins later said “the booking hadn’t been communicated at all, the shower was leaking and the cleaner was there now and it would be ready at 8pm 🙄”if we wish to go in then…..!!” we’d driven over 300 miles! “we had just arrived at the property by this time 16.30pm so let ourselves in. After this communication with Hannah, she did not contact us again to see if all was ok……. 🤷‍♀️ The cleaner arrived 20 mins after us. To be fair the upstairs was ok with beds made up etc downstairs wasn’t too bad but the floors needed cleaning dishwasher emptying, bin needed a clean etc and no welcome pack but there was a bottle of milk that had been there a while and had curdled. This property obviously hadn’t had a full deep clean since the last clients. The cleaner was a very helpful chap and we accepted the property as it was gave it a good sweep and clean and got on with our holiday. We were there for our grandsons 13th birthday so not an option to stay anywhere else. If you’re staying here take large bath towels with you, there are plenty of smaller towels provided and pillow protectors as there are none. The house needs a good tidying up and the garden and front area needs a lot of work. If you’ve got small children or dogs there is a pond with no cover. I suggest giving the host a ring 2/3 days before you go just to check all is well

"It was fine for a 1 night stay"

The location and on site parking are fab

It wasn’t a great first impression…. There was a large pile of post on entry so guessed that the property hadn’t been cleaned recently as surely this would have been picked up! The beds were made and fresh towels supplied but I don’t think cleaners had been in to check it over before we checked in as there were leaves (!) in the main bedroom, cobwebs in most of the rooms, very dusty blinds in the bathroom and dead flies on the floor in the kitchen. Expected a bit better considering what I’d paid!

"I messaged the host before posting this review but she hasn’t got back to me"

5.0

The location of this property is really good the decor is beautiful

There was a smell of damp and traces of mould. Mouldy tea towel in a drawer. There is a pond which is a risk for children or dogs. The bannister is much too low so is a serious hazard. The shower tray was filling with dirty water so had to get a plumber out but the shower needs a complete regrout. Not enough ventilation couldn’t open most of the downstairs windows or doors

"Lovely house with everything you need on your doorstep"

9.0

Amazing location a short walk from the harbour, pubs and restaurants. Beautifully decorated and had everything we needed. Host responded to queries really quickly. Really good to have off road parking, although a little tricky to get in and out of, but really useful as Porthlevan gets really busy. Have booked again already!

The only thing I think could be improved is the locking of the back door. Quite a trivky technique to it, my mum couldn't do it all. And the wi-fi was abit intermittent at times while watching the tv.
