Hotel Restaurante Spa La Barca de Oro

La Barca de Oro is an excellent choice for your stay in Las Penitas. It is located along the edge of the estuary where one can enjoy watching the tides and the fishermen coming and going from the many decks. Upon arrival guests are greeted warmly by the staff and taken to the rooms. Room styles vary from independent cabins, to dormitory styles, to individual rooms. Rooms are clean and comfortable and many are air conditioned. A delicious breakfast is included and 5 different options are available to choose from. The other meals at the hotel are also very good with large portions at great value. Saturday night pizza night is very popular at the hotel. The staff is always very friendly and helpful. The hotel offers several different tours of the area and is knowledgeable about what to do. Also several different spa treatments are available at very reasonable prices. The hotel has a lovely yoga studio and offers several excellent classes during the week. They did everything to make my stay feel like home.

The staff is super friendly, it’s affordable, they have affordable drinks, wifi is good in common areas and okay in the room, just really tranquilo.

The older woman who maybe owns the place and maybe the wellness centre too?? is extremely rude and unfriendly. There is a yoga studio that lay empty for most of the week I was there (there was 1 class that I couldn’t make) and I wasn’t allowed to use it when she was around. they even locked the doors and told the staff not to give me access! The younger yoga teacher is lovely/ kind and would let me use it when I asked but when she wasn’t around I wasn’t allowed. The general atmosphere created by the older owner is not good and I would avoid staying here, she even tried to tell me off for cooking with eggs in the kitchen (which wasn’t me) but I think she was just enjoying asserting her authority… who knows. Weird place. Breakfast is stingy also, would not recommend.

The staff was very unfriendly and made me feel unwelcome. The door of the cabana couldnt close properly, 1 of the chargingppoints did not work and there was no wifi in the room. Would definately not stay there again, Breakfast includes some options, I wanted something else and wanted to pay for it, but they wanted to charge me 2x the pricedifference. I think it's a ripoff and did not experience this before in Nicaragua
