Clarketon Motel - Maggie Valley

It was really clean. Shiny hardwood floors, but a bit slippery getting into bed. Plenty of towels. Had fridge and microwave. Didn't have a closet but plenty of drawers. We only stayed 2 nights so we didn't unpack. We were gone all day, and only slept there. Rocking chairs out front, which we sat in at night, was a nice homey touch. The decor was quaint and charming for an older motel.

Didn't get a wifi password at check in. No phone in room to call front desk. No in room coffee, not sure if available at front desk as we didn't get any papers/info at check in. The bed was old. Mattress was squeaky like it had coils or springs. Mattress slid around. Bed had metal, sharp, exposed corners, and legs of bed got my toes several times. I finally tucked the quilt behind the frame so I could see the sharp corner and try to avoid it. The room only had one bed, which was supposed to be a queen, but felt smaller. The size of the room caught me off guard though; it was tiny! Perhaps if we had two queen beds, it might have been larger, but it seemed tiny. Had a faint odor; reminded me of mothballs at grandparents home! Bathroom was very small. Definitely two people couldn't be in it at once. There was a mixup, I suppose, as our bed didn't get made. I called and they said they were sure housekeeping had been in there. Later we discovered a child had wandered off and all the staff was trying to help mom locate. I think she just forgot to come back to make bed, as the two used towels had been removed I noted later. Plenty of fresh towels, soap, trash bag, cups were brought by later by owner. She was very nice. There were rocking chairs outside door and we sat out there at night. Lovely area.

Clarketon is an old fashioned motel with all the charm of yesteryear.

The rooms were clean and the staff made you feel welcome they loaded you feel like they have known you forever we will be staying there again

Location, no frills ok for the price. Good amenities: refrigerator, microwave and nice big color tv. Friendly and helpful hostess. They offered coffee in lobby but we were glad we brought our own coffee pot.

There was a huge bright security light outside the bedroom. Light kept me AWAKE!! The curtains in room were so thin the light just went thru. This needs to be corrected.

Well it was indeed retro. And room was clean.

Really not updated in any way and as a surprise pets were not allowed. That didn't come up on any descriptions. Any fancier facilities welcome pets. I'm sure there is a bigger problem of wildlife than pets.
