"Gorgeous but a little expensive.."

7.0

The location is absolutely beautiful. I was unlucky that it had a freak rain day the day I was there so there was no visibility. But my second morning was stunning. I think this place is absolute perfect for couples wanting a private sanctuary away from anyone else - you can cook dinner under the stars and do little hikes around the area.

Just in general I think the food and extras are overpriced. I was quoted a super high price for a massage them got one much cheaper down the road (maybe their masseuse was better - but felt a bit excessive). I would suggest not getting the full board unless you want to hang at the property all day / like such specific meal structure. They serve them at 9,1pm and 6pm and you have to be there within 10 or so mins. The food is Guatemalan so you get the taste of the culture but it’s a bit repetitive, and you can’t choose at all (im veggie so it was alot of soup). Lots of food tho - you won’t go hungry! I got it as I thought there are no options up there without a car but there’s a really great restaurant serving food all day at the lodge just down the road. If you’re a solo traveler that wants the remote nature experience but also likes some other people around / options of things to do the place down the road might be a better option

"Beautiful Views and Excellent stay with some minor improvements"

8.0

The views were lovely and the bed was the most comfortable I'd experienced on my trip so far. It was great to be around nature and disconnected while still being able to connect (I had to do some work). The facilities were modern and as pictured. A nice retreat to get out of the city for a night. The staff were few but they were all very lovely.

It was really hard to get a taxi to pick me up (I ended up organizing through the hotel, but that was pricier), it's a bit off the main track and then once you get there there's a bit of a trek to get to the rooms, but there wasn't any visible staff around to help direct or answer questions (it's all virtual). It's not far to get to the room but it's quite steep, so being a solo traveller it was difficult to safely bring my bag to the room (I definitely damaged the bag, but also not many people bring luggage with wheels on their trip, so partly my mis-planning). I did get help upon checkout by arranging with the hotel for someone to help with the bag, but I wish I didn't have to spend my short stay coordinating so many things (there were other minor things) with the hotel versus actually just enjoying the beautiful view, which is not the expectation for the price paid. I would still come back, but there's definitely room for improvement for a more high-end hotel stay.

"Amazing view, so comfortable and great food!"

10.0

I had a wonderful stay at Finca El Tambor. The team were so helpful, assisting me to arrange transport, to change my booking when i realised i could stay an extra day, booking the night hike etc. Thank you! I also cannot compliment the food enough - I booked full board and everything was delicious and big portions! I stayed in Casa Coi, and the view was amazing, the bed very comfortable, i liked that there was yoga mat and block to use as well.

I can't fault the stay at all but I would maybe recommend to have your own transport if you want to go to Antigua etc. There is kitchen equipment in the Casa, but when i visited the onsite shop only had honey, wine and some snacks, so if you want to cook be prepared before you arrive - or just book full board!

This hotel really should have been advertised as glamping instead. VERY difficult drive / ride to the hotel on a winding dirt road along the edge of the mountain. VERY difficult walk through the property up and down steep cobblestone paths. No heat or AC. The parking is down the road at a local family’s personal house. Breakfast was good but pretty late at 9:00 and the same eggs, plantain, and avocado every day, so some days we skipped breakfast even though it was already paid for. It was absolutely beautiful and extremely worth it for such an affordable price, but one needs to know what they’re getting into. In terms of a hotel, there are some things to be improved, but in terms of glamping, it was great!

"Absolutely sensational"

10.0

This place is AMAZING. Honestly I never wanted to leave. The glass front view in the lodge and the floor to ceiling glass in the shower is just stunning. We loved watching the volcano come day or night from bed or from the terrace! Really comfy bed, well equipped kitchen and there's even a yoga mat. We ate dinner in the restaurant which was lovely and everything tasted fresh, it was a little expensive (3 courses for 200Q each) but was very enjoyable with a good view. Couldn't recommend more and would love to return!
