Charming Apartments in Funchal - São Gonçalo

View over Funchal was superb. Nice seating area. Apartment spotlessly clean. Huge rooms. Easy check in. Nice of Tony..the owner to give gifts..avocados etc out of his garden.

No clean towels for 10 days. Only 1 bath sheet and 1 hand towel each also one tea towel. Ended up washing them ourselves. Although we messaged 4 times no response...the property manager told me after I saw him in person (when he came to change the gas) his friend didn't pass the messages on...NOT good enough. Was told in beginning to message if we needed anything...Good job I telephoned for new gas bottle.

Although we arrived early we did try communicating with host but got reply. On day of arrival other occupants were still there. They left it messy and even if we arrived at time given to gain access it still wouldn’t have been ready. It was much later we could get in and unpack cleaners just leaving. Damage found to various fittings and showers not in good working order or Bath. No aircon but at the very least expected some fans. Cobwebs on ceilings and flaking paint on wall.

There are two flats and we were in the three bed downstairs. It’s huge and has everything you’d need. It’s peaceful, has a lovely view and there is a great restaurant called Zarcos nearby along with a local shop. There are lots of buses into Funchal.

The outside barbecue area is shared with upstairs and the front terrace is in shade in the morning which was a shame. You can’t really walk into Funchal - it’s a very steep and windy road.

Quiet and beautiful location, but still close to everything.

Our stay was excellent! We spent 11 days in Funchal, and it was a good decision to stay in this apartment! location is cool, because it’s not in a city center, calm place, without noise, that’s what I was looking for. Stunning view from balcony made this place the best one! Good equipped apartment, coffee machine, washing machine, towels etc. Also there is a barbecue place in outdoor. It’s easy to get to the city center by bus, or by car! Parking place is also exists near the house. Recommend it!

The view offered of Funchal is excellent, and the terrace areas are glorious suntraps. The house is in close proximity to Zarcos restaurant (which has an outdoor ATM), and a local mini market shop near the Church of São Gonçalo. Very quiet and safe residential area. Tea bags, coffee, cleaning cloths, detergent for the washing machine, coals for the outdoor bbq etc. were all provided. Very large rooms with ornate hardwood flooring. Several 'Horarios do Funchal' bus routes pass by the Church near this property.

Taxis and transfers have difficulty finding the property, I would advise hiring a car as the route to the shops (or Funchal) starts with a (5-10min) walk up a severe incline. This property is not one house as advertised, but two flats (no19 and 19a), with no19a being the upstairs property. We stayed in no19.

Nice view of Funchal bay, plenty of space, you can sit inside, outside, nothing was missing, quiet area. Good value for money. Overall we liked it and can recommend it.

3 bedroom house is better said ground floor apartment. Other guests are upstairs in "2 bedroom house", sometimes they can be noisy, floors are wooden. Beds were not comfortable. Bedroom 1 very hard, bedroom 2 very soft, bedroom 3 quite comfortable but single beds.

Great apartment, excellent facilities, spacious accommodation and great views.

No cooling available for warm nights. No aircon so perhaps electric fans could be supplied as an economical option.
