"Nice for a one-off but wouldn’t re-book"

Beautiful old property

The red carpet hadn’t been hoovered. Found a sock next to the bed from a previous guest. Cobwebs round the windows. Beds hard and squeaky, so every time someone moved it work everyone else up

"Comfortable stay in a traditional property in an excellent location"

8.0

It is an amazing location to explore the town of Hertford.

Although parking is included as a facility, it is on street and a very busy road so difficult to find. The bathroom is on the ground floor with the kitchen and down to tight, round staircases if you need to use it in the middle of the night. The towels could be newer/fluffier. It would be useful to have some basic things available in the kitchen; condiments/vinegar/butter

"Great stay in central Hertford"

9.0

The house is very old (1600's) so it has a very quirky layout and the stairs are steep but manageable. It was well equipped and had everything we needed. Very easy to get to, and great location in the town centre. The house was a lot bigger than expected, I was worried about ceiling heights as my husband is 6'5 but it was fine.

Nothing stands out that was a particular issue - there is a little general background noise (cars, people walking past) but nothing excessive and nothing that you wouldn't expect from being in town. I can see why people would have issues with the stairs but it is a very old, listed property.

"House full of character"

7.0

Amazing historical cottage with lots of strange and interesting things in it. The main attraction is the age and the timber frames that originated from 1654. There was plenty of essentials such as loo roll, cleaning items and tea, coffee and sugar. The tv as well supplied with channels although we didnt use it very much as out exploring.

This is advisory for those looking at booking the property. It's on 3 levels - ground floor kitchen and bathroom - 2nd floor lounge which is split by large curtains to create a bedroom and then another set of even steeper curved stairs to the attic where the 2nd bedroom is. You need to be very agile to manage these stairs & if you need to go to the loo in the night its awkward; there's no other mirrors so the bathroom downstairs is needed for everything. The front door is extremely old as expected but it's important to know that in order to open it you need to stick your hand through the letter box & pull hard towards you then turn the key. That's after you've unlocked the dead bolt at the bottom of the door. Parking is tricky but we found spaces along the narrow road each time we needed to & it is free. The sockets & light switches are hard to reach & sparingly placed upstairs which again is due to the properties age. The mattress on the 2nd floor bed was really hard & sleeping was difficult. The 2nd & 3rd floors get hot but with the windows open it gets noisy with passers by & traffic & the only fan made a clanking noise. This obviously sounds negative but I would like to stress that the property is extremely old & therefore has these restrictions & difficulties worth knowing about. The attraction is the historical interest it has within its walls - the uneven, creaking floors; the tricky stairs & so forth so for many people this will be an amazing place to stay.
