Casa Cacheu Bissau Homestay

Nico is a very knowledgeable man and a fantastic host! A calm and collected man, very helpful and takes care of you. He helped both in getting transport to the Bijagos and with lots of tips and information. I really liked talking to him, with his kind of wise and deep knowledge about the country and the world. Stayed in three different rooms on the property on different occasions and all were clean and nice. Air conditioning was working well which is definitely important after having been out on a scorching hot day.

There were no problems, really. Just bear in mind, this is not a B&B, so arrange for your own groceries.

The location was great and the check in process was great.

The wifi was not very good. Cleanliness could be improved as well.

Great location - near the main road, imperial monument and a few embassies. Liked that there was a mosquito net. The host Nico was very friendly and helpful!

The place is nice and very clean, with the room featuring effective air conditioning and a mosquito net. As mentioned in previous reviews, it is not a hotel, though. For example, no toiletries (other than hand soap) is provided and no housekeeping during your stay. Not a problem, but good to be aware of. And still very good value for money. For various reasons, Casa Cacheu has no outside signage. But the friendly owner Nico will meet you outside when you call him. The location near the presidential palace within a few minutes of the international Imperio and Royal hotels with their restaurants is a great plus, and very safe to walk (even at night) unlike in other West African capitals. No begging and no hustling, instead very friendly and peaceful people in Bissau.

The amenities were not what was suggested on the booking/com app - e.g. no kitchenette, no coffee & tea maker, no terrace. More importantly, other than what booking/com implied on their app, the accommodation does not accept credit cards. This created a problem because, after crossing several West African countries during the previous days, for safety reasons I did not carry much cash with me. And ATMs in Bissau do not accept MasterCard or even Maestro, which is common in Senegal, both of which are the only cards I have. So I got cash with my Mastercard from the nearby Royal Hotel. They charged a hefty commission, though. The owner of Casa Cacheu was very friendly, accommodating and understanding so that we settled the payment issue amicably.
