The Sandbeck, Commondale

Clean and with great views. Very quiet location

For the purposes of the review I should mention that we were moved to the Lealholm room due to a leak in Commondale, David let us know via phone call in advance. This wasn’t a problem at all though and Lealholm proved to be a lovely room. Great sea views, clean, huge comfy bed, good in-room facilities including modern bathroom facilities, wardrobe, mini fridge, tea/coffee making facilities. The breakfast station outside the room worked really well and was topped up with cereals, fresh milk, juice and yogurts every day. It was great to sit in the bay window area over breakfast and enjoy the sea views and watch the world go by. The hosts, David and Kay, are lovely people and so welcoming. Check-in was an easy process and involved simply picking up the keys from the key safe. We absolutely loved our stay and would definitely stay at The Sandbeck again should we spend more time in Whitby.

There was nothing we didn’t like. It was spot on.

Clean Warm

Security cameras in breakfast common room No contact with so called host. Difficulty to access the flat A ninth hour text informing that it migh be best to cancel due to building renovations. Like we would have been able to rebook elsewhere. I found the mixed messages flustrating trying to excuse the renervation work when all along they would have known weeks beforehand. Very disappointed with host who could have faced us in person and talked to us instead of hiding behind cameras and intercoms

Upper level dual aspect room with great views. Nicely decorated and was clean & tidy. The lift is a big bonus. Plenty of space in the main room.

I feel that the mattress is a bit tired as the springs are a bit noisy when turning over. The pillows on the bed are of poor quality. There’s no hot water connected to the sink in the kitchen area.

Lovely sea views. Hassle free check in, comfortable bed. Modern and clean.

We lived the property. Only downside was the lack of hot breakfast, but for the price we can’t complain it was lovely.

Bit disappointed about breakfast. Yes we had cereal. Neither of us eat yogurts Think we maybe expected pastries. We went into town for a breakfast.
