House of Lion Hostel

We stayed in one of the private rooms, and were met with an extremely strong and unpleasant smell in the hallway. The smell was definitely animal poo, whether it be from the cats or something else, we are unsure. Secondly, the room was dirty when we arrived, the bin was still full of other guests trash and toilet paper, which for me is unacceptable and lazy on behalf of the staff. The pressure in the shower was non existent, and the shower itself caused electric shocks when it was touched. Furthermore, the fridge also gave me multiple electric shocks. The electricity in this building is not safe. The room was very hot at night, and although there was AC, it did not work effectively. We also found that there was no person of responsibility in charge of the property to address these complaints to, as all of the staff were part time volunteers. Overall, very disappointed with our stay here, we checked out early and found an amazing place which was super comfortable and social only a 10 minute walk away.

Private room had a fridge and hairdryer. The communal areas also had a kitchen which included toaster/ kettle and water station. Some of the volunteers were extremely friendly and helpful.

The list goes on… To start with we were put into a room that was filthy. We went to use the shower and it shocked us multiple times! There was no way to turn it on/ off without getting multiple shocks and there were electric cables right next to it! The shower was also freezing cold and never heated up. The air con didn’t work and so the room was boiling hot, it was cooler outside than what it was in the room. After mentioning it to a male member of staff multiple times, he just said he would look later and never did. Within our first hour here, the power kept turning off and so we were left in the dark for over 3 hours. We understand this happens, but the owner just found it funny and offered no apology. Like most places, they offer signs for the doors to be put out for your room to be cleaned. We left this sign on the door for two days and not once was our room cleaned. There was mouse poo covering the floor and around our bags… Corridor absolutely STANK of cheese which lingered in your nose. There was a vending machine for drinks which was out of order and looked like it was from the Stone Age. Kitchen was absolutely filthy and there was no water to wash up with. We asked about the tours on offer with the hostel and the guy just said he had no idea what happened on the trip or where it goes… we obviously decided not to book.

Warm welcome. The host really friendly. They plan for fun activities every single time. Initial plan was to stay for one night but end up staying for 3 night.

They have 3 level of bunk bed. Just don’t get the top one because even the AC not getting to you and even in the night was pretty hot(close to the ceiling)

The location was alright and the chilled vibe from the staff and people there. Easy to chat up. Just good for a one night tight stay as there is not much to see in Langwaki.

It needs some improvements in the shower and bedrooms. Bed is old. The private room is literally the window you see behind the reception and social area. It is cool if you don't mind being part of the conversations passively every night. Not a quiet room until midnight if you are lucky. AC is old but cools the room down after a good 10/15 minutes. Don't leave any food even packed in the room cause I woke up to a half-eaten wrapped chocolate bar with mouse poo next to it. Charming.

The staff is very nice

The bed I stayed at is in the hostel's hall. Everyone who was going to their dorms, kitchen, toilet, etc, you will notice them. Especially if they are coming after the party.

Great location Clean Friendly staff Absolutely best value for money! I will go there again as soon as possible

too short stay

I got a private room as I wanted more privacy. The room was big, clean and the beds were comfy. I’m the facilities were good and I like that you could refill your water. Also at the front of the property was a really nice social area. The hostel was a five minute walk from the beach and closely located to restaurants and shops.

I have nothing negative to say.
