Location

Leak from hole in ceiling onto hard floor of landing. No hot water. Very cold. Fuse box kept tripping. Water marks from leak around electric switch on wall. Fire in living room needs chimney cleaning as smoke came into the room. Holes in walls. Mark on bed sheet.

The property did not represent the pictures that are on booking.com. Myself and my wife did not stay at the property. We actually went home. Heres an outline of the issues we encountered. 1. both gardens were covered in weeds also there was bits of scrap wood laying around a cigarette lighter and other bit of rubbish very untidy not. 2. The back window of the property had had eggs smashed on it, which was still there rotten. 3. The kitchen had not been cleaned. One of the cupboards had white paint platters on it. The cooker was filthy. It actually had cobwebs inside it and there was a funny smell when you entered the property initially. 4. we entered the living area which once again had not been cleaned. The paintwork was in very bad repair there white paint spot again on the floor near the front door. some of the flooring was completely different coloured. 4. First bedroom upstairs had rubbish under one of the beds was an old blind but no curtains same issue again with the paint work needed updated. The bedding has not been cleaned. 5. The hallway leading down to the master bedroom had cracks in the wall next to the doorway entrance of the toilet and bathroom it looked like damp and mould issues. 6. The main master bedroom had one old blind, no curtains. Too large dirty stains on the carpet floor. The paintwork once again needed refreshed updated. But the most shocking thing was the wardrobe next to the window was padlocked shut and sure was the other wardrobe within the room. 6. There was small heaters throughout most of the rooms in the property. They were actually on smart timer which made no sense. Just a quick summary firstly I apologise about my grammar as it’s terrible. But I just wanna make sure that nobody else has to go through an experience like this. I went through the quick procedure after we left the property to get a refund but only got half the money back. this property is not good enough to be on booking.com thanks for reading.

Location was as expected - very quiet and peaceful

No instruction book so didn’t have hot water initially. Quite cold and grateful for the open fire. No lock on bathroom door - which unnerved our teenage son.

No name plate 'Hare View Cottage' outside so confusion on arriving. Keys not available before arriving, told by neighbor to try the back door! Msg received from owner after we arrived. Clean on surface but when looking deeper ingrained dirt on back of lounge door, mould on shower screen seal and in corner of bathroom window sill. No plugs for sink in kitchen or bathroom sink. No bowl for washing up. Heating on;y works if fire lit, hearth grate burnt through so not useable. No latch on batrhroom door so not able to secure closed.

The location was spot on for what we wanted to do, which was to visit both Cragside and Alnwick on our way back south from a trip to Scotland. Driveway will easily fit 2 cars. Living room is comfortable and a good size, as is the main bedroom. Bathroom is big and there was plenty of hot water (once we found the switch). We had a wonderful meal at the Cook and Barker pub in Newton-on-the-Moor (9 mins away), highly recommend a visit there

Whilst it was clean, it could have been cleaner (grubby finger marks on the doors, cobwebby, strong smell of dog - possibly the latter two were down to the cottage being closed up for a while?). Lacking in tumblers to drink from (only 2). Lacking a lock or even a proper catch on the bathroom door, so it would swing open without warning (a shoe had to be put in the way to stop it happening). Great hanging rail in main bedroom, but no hangers. All of the above are easy fixes, so will hopefully be sorted asap. Would advise that the twin room is best used by kids as there was very little floor space (although there was a useful chest of drawers).

Good location, good amenities, lovely little cottage for our family and great host.
