Casa di Princi

This is a lovely house. Very well equipped and tastefully decorated. It’s very comfortable, clean and feels more like staying at a friend’s house. The neighbourhood is very quiet and charming and almost feels like you are in the middle of a forest with all the trees. We even saw wild boar when on a walk just a few minutes from the house. The parking is easy and the WiFi is very good. There is a station for the funicular just 8 minutes walk away (Carescione), which can take you to Como or up to the centre of Brunate (you need to request the stop - there is a button at the station and on the funicular itself to stop at Carescione). Simone sent us photos and even a video of the best route to the house as Satellite navigation can apparently take you down a very narrow street. Simone even came out to meet us on her Scooter as we drove in to guide us to the house, I’m pretty sure we would have found it from the photos and videos she sent, but it was nice to just follow someone after the long drive. Simone left us a lot of information on Brunate and the area, and gave us some personal recommendations for restaurants (Simone speaks excellent English).

Getting to the house in a car is a bit tricky. There are a few very narrow roads that only 1 car can pass at a time, so you may need to reverse if a car is coming the other way. But this is not Simone’s fault (Brunate council could mange this better). And Simone provides a lot of good guidance on the best way in by car. We used the funicular to get to Como and up to the centre of Brunate and that worked well for us.

Hartelijk ontvangst door Simona, ruim appartement voor twee personen, alles aanwezig wat je nodig hebt, parkeerplaats, rustig gelegen buiten de drukte van Como. 20 minuten lopen naar de Funicolare die je in 7 minuten naar beneden in Como brengt (houd rekening met 30 minuten wachtrij als je weer naar boven wilt). Met de auto vanuit Como is een flinke klim en op sommige plekken wel heel erg smal.

The bed was abit hard and there was alot of hills to walk up to the funicular if your doing it a couple of times a day can bit tiring.

Open and bright

Casa di Princi has everything one needs for a very comfortable stay. Our hostess Simona had put out a lot of information about the area and the flat, as well as a couple of tickets for the funicular. She had also left a lovely bottle of Prosecco in the fridge for us. The flat is spacious and very nicely furnished and we felt 'at home' straightaway. It's also located in a quiet, beautiful and leafy area. The kitchen has all the basic ingredients one needs for preparing a meal. Often salt, pepper, oil, vinegar etc. are not available in self-catering apartments, but, in this case, it was like using the flat of a trusting friend. The bed was extremely comfortable and the shutters in de bedroom keep out every bit of light.

We missed a couple of small occasional tables in front of the sofa to put our cups or glasses on. A glass, put on the floor, was promptly forgotten and kicked over, wasting precious liquid and resulting in a broken glass! Some of the roads are very narrow and don't have passing places over quite a long distance. But there is a better way up with wider roads if one knows which ones to take. The very wet weather we had for most of our 4 days there let us down, but then it was no hardship to stay for one whole day in a very comfortable and nicely furnished flat.
