"Great Spot"

The room was really comfortable with some thoughtful additions that you don't get everywhere. The owners and punters were really friendly and very welcoming. We spent a lovely evening with them in the bar. It has a homely atmosphere and we would certainly stay there again!

"Promising start, dreadful sleep."

3.0

Location was great for what we were doing. Seemed like a nice quiet place. Room was lovely on first impression. Teas, coffees and even flapjacks in the room upon arrival. Easy to come and go when we wanted. Parking was easy around the back of the property. Bathroom and shower were clean. Owners seemed friendly and helpful. Food was good in the pub, especially the lamb pie.

Had a dreadful sleep, due to being kept awake by people drinking in the bar till 2am. I understand that booking a room above a pub on a Friday isn’t going to be a picture of absolute quiet, and I expected this. But I didn't account for just how long the loud music and the loud talking (and at some points actually shouting/wailing) by punters would be going on for. At 9pm I thought this is fine, this is what I expected, and then, it continued to get louder at 10pm, and then kept going and going until I went downstairs at around 1.30am and asked the lady proprietor "I thought you weren't open late?" as we were ensured by the male proprietor upon checking in, telling us they were "more of a foodie pub, and won't be open late". Well, you can understand my disapointment at this. I tried to be polite as possible and not make much of a fuss because I understand the struggles of running a pub in today's age and didn't explicitly want to go downstairs and be all "you need to be quiet I can't sleep". So when the lady said "we'll be kicking everyone out soon", I left it at that. Like I said previously, I didn't expect to be able to have an early night or a quiet evening when staying about a busy pub, but what I didn't expect is for said pub to still be serving punters gone 1am. In my opinion if this is likely to happen when you have people staying above the premises, there should at least be some warning or indication, because I would not have booked had I known this. It almost felt like they may have forgotten we were staying above, and only realised when I went down to ask about them being closed early. I essentially paid £85 to spent most of the night lying in bed with the TV on trying to drown out the noise so I could sleep. Luckily my partner is a heavier sleeper and managed to get some shut eye, but I unfortunately am not.
