Julian House of Games

The location

1. It was very dirty; dirty old trash still in the trash cans, cubwebs everywhere 2. Old furnitures and broken fixtures everywhere the house - not organized 3. Didn't feel secure - windows were not locked, crawl space area cannot be locked from the inside of the house 4. Supplies was not enough - paper towel 5. Missing alot of light bulbs not working. 6. Missing lights on driveway 7. There was no centralized heater in the house or in the bedrooms. That weekend at night was in the 30 degrees.

We had a very nice stay here. We were 6 adults and there was plenty of beds, rooms and space for all of us. My favorite place was the huge balcony. Spent lots of time out there reading and being with family.

The kitchen could have been stocked better. One item would be a set of mixing bowls. There wasn't a bowl even close to big enough to toss a salad. smaller sized bowls would have been very useful as well. The oven mitts need to be replaced.

Location was best feature being located in nice peaceful neighborhood enclosed w/beautiful tall trees but close to all the main attractions; house was clean and spacious with different areas to lounge and relax; outside deck off main floor for coffe/tea or evening cocktails; number of rooms/sleeping areas; kitchen amenities and appliances (was able to use all the appliances successfully); access to extra entertainment items ie, games, TV, puzzles, etc.

Add clearly marked outdoor trash can/area; add screen door for front deck; clean cobwebs especially in bedrooms; include clearer instructions on running dishwasher before leaving; add skinny coffee table in living/TV area (we used our cooler for a table); add directions to use TV and directions for upstairs shower (switching from tub to shower head); add nightlight for main floor bathroom; fix broken screens so windows can be opened.

The kitchen and bathrooms were lovely and the house had all the amenities promised and needed.

A deep clean and some cosmetic touch ups would have made the property more presentable.

The cabin is beautiful, it's got an almost fantasy feel like you're in a mystical cottage/cabin. It's got a balcony that is so peaceful and has a lovely view.

That we couldn't stay longer.

Good location. Lots of space. Good price. Lots of heaters and a nice wood-burning stove. We brought our own wood, but there is some outside in the shed too. Plenty of beds. 7 of us fit here. Very accommodating. We didn’t play any games, we just wanted a comfortable place to stay. This worked.

There are not 2 private rooms here. One is a cold, moldy basement that leaks from the ceiling when the upstairs toilet is flushed. Water got everywhere, including the luggage we brought. Soaked through, all of our spare clothes were wet. We had that mattress moved upstairs to the office portion of the loft (the host was very good about having that moved while we were away). The upstairs is a loft, and it’s very cozy — but it is not private. If a couple stays there, everyone downstairs would hear then. A foldable room divider doesn’t cut it. The pull-out mattress in the bunkbed room is not in a good place. We moved it to the reading room with the couch. The couch bed had a note on it explaining that it was broken (though this was no disclosed; I’m very glad the guest who wanted to claim that bed was unable to go with us last minute).

Location was fantastic was 5 mins from town and a nice quiet private location, the kitchen and bathroom were modern. It has a fantastic little yard for a dog that's completely fenced in. There were a lot of games and also included kids toys which was great to take a child.The host seemed lovely though and has made an effort to make the place homely. The kitchen was fully equipped and had everything you could ask for, even a kettle! This means a lot as I drink tea and it's hard to find a place with a kettle. The loft was great and also had an office which was a bonus. There were extra space heaters available.

I didn't get to try all of the games (the reason we booked it) but the ones I did try were missing pieces or broken which made it a bit of a shame but there were plenty we didn't check. We couldn't get more than lukewarm water in the bath so had to heat water in the kettle. We got in late and had trouble finding the central heating thermostat at the base of the stairs on the wall.
