The Gallery at Ryedale House

Nicely appointed. Clean. Good view to river and city. Close to centre of town, restaurants and bars. Very spacious. The fridge worked well and kept our drinks very cold- great in warm weather.

We were there in hot weather, unusual for June. When we arrived the apartment was 27 degrees inside. The windows face the sun for most of the day and there is no air conditioning, so it is hard to control the temperature. A fan was provided in the living room but it was loose on it's base, so it was a bit lopsided. It was hard to cool the bedrooms. We left the window open in the main bedroom but then the light woke us at 5am as the blind was attached to the door, so when the door was open, the light came in. A small detail- both showers leaked onto the floor, and a bath floor mat was only provided in one bathroom. A note for the letting agent- when we collected the keys, we had been up and travelling for 12 hours. The directions were fine (and the video very helpful) except that you told us to look for a lock box marked 403. There were two cupboards of lock boxes. We checked all 60ish boxes twice. We were tired and hot. We then started trying the given unlock code on boxes with no number on them. Only then did we reread the emails and see that although you had written 403 in the directions, the apartment name is The Gallery, and one of the boxes was called the Gallery, but with no number. I know this might seem small, but when you're tired, have been up since 4am and are hot and trying to follow instructions, this is just made it so much harder.

The location and the building.

I’ve stayed before at Ryedale house but not at the Gallery. This time was so very disappointing, there were small blood stains on the bedsheets on one of the bedrooms. The towels seemed like they’ve been there for so long they were all dusty. Our faces broke out with pimples after the first night sleep on the beds. The shower in the small toilet was not very practical we had to clean up after every shower because the water just kept going out everywhere. The balcony door only opened from the bedroom not practical . Not worth the money at all especially that I’ve tried other more spacious apartments in Rydale house.

Not having a parking spot on site was a real pain so make sure to read the small details as it was not totally clear being on the back the wind was rough and the draft through the large window was chilly and enough to move even the heavy curtains.
