The Bell Hotel

After reading the reviews I was very sceptical about this place. However, on arrival I was met by a nice man who was very helpful. If you are expecting a high class hotel then this is not the place for you. I stayed in room 19 and it was fine.

It is basic. Was clean and tidy. Nothing special but somewhere to sleep and shower.

Walls are thin, could hear people coming in at early hours.

The place is peaceful, clean, quiet and easy to access. Thank you so much Bell Hotel. Appreciated indeed. Thank you

Reasonable value for money. Staff tried to be helpful

Windows needed to be cleaned. No bath mat. Didn't smell great on arrival. Arrangements for arrival were haphazard

This was an okay place to stay. It was an older place, but this is what we are finding in England. The beds were comfortable, and the room was clean and tidy. The internet worked well. A lot of restaurants in walking distance. They have free parking but not a lot. If the place is full, you would probably have to find street parking.

We stayed in room 8 and the toilet did not flush, and we had to add water to make it flush. I left a note so hopefully they fixed it. When we arrived, no one was there to let us in our room. We had to phone and wait for someone to let us in, which did not take too long. Was a bit of a maize to get to our room, you had to go through a few doors and upstairs. Also, we could hear the people up above us so not soundproof. Was a bit expensive compared to the rest of the places we have been staying at since we have been travelling around the UK.

Room was dirty, shower was dirty. Room smelt of damp and mould from the bathroom. Bloody stains on the bedding Wasn't please at all

Just a short walk from the centre of town. Good value for money.

This was a former pub that is now just a set of rented rooms. There were no other facilities as far as I could see. However food was available close by in cafes, supermarkets, pubs or takeaways.

Sufficient space for my weekend. Very good internet connection. TV was okay but needed to sign into things like BBC to use them. Over the phone the staff were able to make an arrangement for me to arrive late by entering a code in the front door and leaving a key in the bedroom door, but finding the room was a bit trial and error at one point following a sign that read something like 10-17 to find room 21.

Mouse in the bathroom going under the skirting board. The shower could do with a clean and the curtains looked mildewy and could do with running through the washing machine. The bathroom drains seemed to smell like strong farts for most of Saturday night like there was a slight blockage in the waste pipe. No sign of staff for the entire visit other than on the phone before I arrived. I dropped an earring back on the floor of the entrance and really wanted to find a member of staff with a broom so I could sweep it across the carpet until it showed up, but noone around. Also I found a couple of pieces of broken glass on the floor and the sofa and the carpet behind it in the entrance were exceptionally filthy. No sign of staff on Friday at 1130pm, midnight, Saturday morning at 850-905 or when I got back at about 8. Noone around between 8 and 9pm Saturday or ar 9:45 or 9:55. Noone around at midnight or when I left at 11am on Sunday morning. Oh and I nearly forgot both the cold and hot taps were connected to hot water flow so I couldn't get a cold glass of water. Also the UHT milk seemed to have separated and had lumps in it somehow. A second pot made an okay cup of tea when I threw out the first one out.
