The Old Smithy

Ann and Martin were very friendly. We had a wonderful selection for breakfast including a superb full English. Our room was very comfortable and peaceful. We would definitely stay again when visiting the area. Thank you Ann and Martin

Very nice couple very welcoming. Lovely breakfast enjoyed the lovely little touches that displayed the properties heritage, lovely old farm property with a gorgeous old barn with historic original oak beams.

The bed was comfy and the breakfast was good. The hosts were friendly.

Dirty windows. Dirty shower screen. Old bath linen. Visitors need to know there is a dog in residence. The Old Smithy is situated within derelict farm buildings.

Location not far from Petworth, enjoying rural surroundings. Walking distance to the local pub for dinner. Host was helpful in getting us a dinner reservation and breakfast met our needs. it was good to see some thoughtful touches such as night lights on the steps to the bathroom

Very steeply pitched attic ceiling caught me by surprise a couple of times, and having to go down a few steps to the bathroom in the middle of the night is always fraught for me.

The breakfast was amazing, we didn’t eat again until dinner

This is a 'hidden gem' if you are looking for a quiet retreat . One of the surviving buildings of a Sussex manor it has been updated without fuss. I cannot remember the last time I was awoken by silence. Ann & Martin were brilliant hosts and Martin provides a more than adequate breakfast. If like me you are over 6' tall - mind you head.

An observation not a criticism - the access road to the property needs some sort of signage that will not annoy the local authority ( Martin working on that).
