"A lovely weekend in an historic , cosy cottage ."

10.0

A beautiful ,quirky character property in a great location which overlooked the owners lovely gardens. Well equipped, homely feel and thoughtful touches on arrival. Shaftesbury itself is an interesting place with plenty of walks and good places to eat.

Nothing at all.

"Perfect heritage cottage for a short stay in Shaftesbury - walking distance to all the sites."

9.0

Perfect heritage cottage for a visit to Shaftesbury with beautiful view of the garden. Very well equipped with everything you need for breakfast. There is a wood burning stove in the lounge which would be lovely on a cold night.

The cottage is located on a narrow street so need to be careful when driving out of the property.

Loved the fire. Bed was so comfortable.

Small shower but that's just a preference.

"Beautiful historic property in excellent location"

10.0

Wonderful historic building excellently situated to access the town centre as well as countryside walks. Clean and comfortable, wood-burning stove, good quality WiFi, heated blankets in the beautifully decorated and maintained bedrooms.. Very helpful host who was exceptionally understanding when my friend suffered severe food poisoning after a local pub dinner and was in no fit state to check-out on time. He allowed us the extra hours we needed to arrange transport for her and pack up. We really appreciated this kind response to a difficult and unexpected situation.

No complaints at all!

"Disappointing"

4.0

The location was acceptable, albeit the entrance to the parking area required one to stop on the edge of a private driveway nearby while I got out to open the gate to the parking area every time. I appreciate the owner had dogs which needed a barrier to stop them going on the road but mentioning it for those planning to park there.

There is no tumble dryer which, in the winter, is not good at all as everything takes a very long while to dry on the (one) rack provided, especially when the property itself is damp, worsened by single glazing, and seemed to receive no sun. In the end we had to put innumerable items of clothing on the radiators as well. There is no dishwasher. Not life-threatening but disappointing in this day and age. There is only one bathroom/toilet in the whole property. Not the end of the world if just 2 of you but if there was a group of you this would be far from ideal. The electric powered shower cubicle is very small and height-restricted. God forbid you were over 6 foot tall. Water pressure is ok, but not great. The wash basin is small. WiFi was generally good throughout the property and the TV was fine. The whole house was damp when we were there, which was not helped by the owner controlling the heating such that it went off around 10pm and only came back on at 06.30am and then went off again later in the morning until late afternoon. As there is no double glazing the cottage retained little heat during the periods when the heating was turned off. I don’t recall seeing a dehumidifier in the property either. The supplied towels looked old and discoloured and we did not use them at all, having, fortunately, brought our own towels with us. The kitchen appliances, and cookware were old and had mostly seen better days. Another viewer commented on how much they liked the mattress in the main bedroom. We found it to be unnaturally soft and not to our liking at all. I didn’t even know mattresses like that were even available nowadays. Other reviewers have described the property as “quaint” and such like, which may well be the appearance on a warm sunny day during a short stay with days mostly spent outdoors enjoying long daylight hours. For us in Winter this was not the case and we consider the cost to us of staying at the property to be poor value.
